hey everybody!! as you can tell by the title, this is about tubes.

Ever since i bought my diezel vh4 less than a year ago, and i've yet to getting around to changing the tubes. so i thought this would be the right time to change them. i'm right now running my vh4 with svetlana el34s. personally, i want to tighten up the bass a little more because i'm currently using the amp to play a lot of down tuned metal songs. (you're def right if you think i'm using ch.3 and 4 a lot lol) btw i think it would be important to say, i'm not one of those who scoops the mids, i understand that my tone is in my mids, so i have them set past 12 o'clock.

so i want to hear about what tubes you have in you amp, who are they made by, what you like about them, what you don't, what's you favorite and for what they're good for, any suggestions, the whole nine yards.

lastly, would it be a good time to also change my pre-amp tubes?

thanx guys

I just re-tubed my Herbert for the first time and ended up going with =C= EL34s. I tried a full set (6) of Ruby 6L6s but didn't like the way the broke up. I don't guess this helps you much since you're looking for something a bit different. :)

I am quite satisfied with the Svets, although Peter is now recommending EL34BHTs; I haven't tried them yet however.

Svet EL34s in the Einstein.

I think I'll be using these from now on. Big clean tone and great for the high gain stuff that I usually do.

In my Herbert I'm using 4 Gold Lion KT88's and 2 JJ KT77's. The lows are tight and HUGE! Much more so then when I had the SED EL34's in it.

nice, thanx, i need to check those out too.

Tonight I pulled all the V30's out of my Mesa standard cab and replaced them with G12K-100's. All I can say is WOW! The low end is so much tighter. It now sounds a lot better then my Bogner ubercab in every way. I will be ordering another four to replace the speakers in my Bogner also. I know you are asking about tubes but this made much more of a difference than any tube change I have made.

Scorned! Could you tell more about the KT88/KT77 swap you did and other changes in tone than tighter/bigger low end. Sounds very interesting. I´m aware of the fact that it´s not going make that drastic change in tone than changing speakers etc. but I´d like to hear your opinions anyhow.

I´m going to also order front loaded Diezel 4x12 with G12K-100s. They´re my favorite elements for metal.

I agree speakers make way more difference then tubes. Can you talk a bit more about the changes? Was thinking about doing this myself.

To my ears the k100's seem to have less mids then the V30's. Yet they still cut through well. The lows are bigger yet much tighter. The V30's seemed flabby in the low end to me. The highs also don't seem so piercing anymore. Over all I find them to be a much more aggressive and focused speaker. My band tunes to C standard and drop A# at times and for this they are perfect! My other guitarist tried them through his head (Uberschall) and after hearing them ordered 8 to replace the speakers in his Bogner cabs lol. They really do make a big difference.

hey guys, check out what i found by JazzyWolf on harmony central: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/sho ... ?t=1476156

this guy did a test with a bunch of different tubes and pres in an amp, you can hear the differences, the link above is the post i'm referring to right below:
Talking CLIP: Hey, tube testing here! Using a Traynor YCV50!!
I have been playing around with some tubes in my YCV50.

Here ar the combinations:

0:0 v1:Electro Harmonix Power:Ruby EL34BSTR
0:50 v1:JJ Power:Ruby EL34BSTR
2:04 v1:Tung Sol Power:Ruby EL34BSTR
3:23 v1:Tung Sol Power:JJ E34L

I also notice that depending on how you place the mic (SM58 clone) can completely change the tone...

I used an 95' Ibanez RG450 loaded with a Dimarzio Norton in the bridge and a Paf Pro in he neck.

Just guitar and amp. No pedals, no externall effects. Recorded at "loud bedroom" levels...

https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...?bandID=640944

I liked a lot both JJ and Tung Sol in v1. Both are very crunch. JJ has more low end while Tung sol is more balanced.

Rubys are great in the power amp. didn't like JJ, they were boomy and lacked top end crisp.

Any opinions?
