These things are great in every module I try them in.

High gain, nice thick mids and low noise.....and they are CHEAP too!!!!

Highly reccomend these bad boys. :thumbsup:
 
How's the lows and highs? Are they bright or dark sounding (relatively)?

Where ya buying 'em from?
 
I'm digging them too. I just got a pair from http://thetubestore.com/. I didn't know they'd be the silver plate ones until I got them. It looks like they changed the photo to show silver plates now.

I'm using them for hi-fi in a phono stage. They seem to have very flat frequency response. They sound something like the Shuguang grey plates if you're familiar with those... They seem to do much better at the frequency extremes than the grey plates, but without thinning out the mids like some tubes do. They seem to retain the same "round", slightly laid-back sound of the Shuguang grey plates, but without the thin bass and gritty, rolled-off highs. I'd say they are a warmer sounding tube than many, but not at all dark sounding or gritty in the highs. Better than I thought they'd be for hi-fi... I prefer them over a good-sized handfull of other new production 12AX7s. Don't know how they'd do in a guitar amp.
 
Best preamp pickup by far for the SL2. Gives a little of that Bogner growl! A little more gain too.
 
Wanted to bring this back up because I am curious what the difference is with the Silver Dragons and the standard 8th and 9th generation Shuguangs?

I ordered some Chinese tubes this week and it was recommended by Doug at Doug's tubes to get the Ruby 12AX7AC5 Selects.

Doug rec'd those to me too this week. I had a Tung Sol die after a few hours on me and I really liked the tone so he suggested the Ruby's.
