I can certainly see why Peter switched to 6550s now...

Just played my VH4 with 6550s (previously EL34s)

Unbelievable...

I can't believe there weren't 6550s in there to begin with.

It's almost like all of the dynamics of the amp were completely opened up.

Can't wait to hear it with the V412F, Terry!

The Tung-Sols are actually killer preamp tubes!

I'm sticking with my EL34s...no one here worried about the heat of the 6550 in the long term?

I tried em (VH4)...hated em. Lost the whooomph of the 34 in Ch.3. The 34's went right back in. I didn't have any of the heat issues a couple people are on about though. They do have a large draw though.

well kids...i really dig the 6550 in my Herbert. Hits me right in the sack when its played! I picked up a VH4 from a friend that had EL34s...was great..but i popped some KT77s in...and shaazamm...totally different monster. I may try the 6550s soon...maybe...but diggin the 77s in the VH4.

I've yet to let my brand-spankin' new VH4S work itself in...but thus far, all things considered, I still like th sound of my EL34's better than the currently, stock 6550 tubesets. Granted, we need to open this puppy up, and let 'er breathe... Something I haven't done with much regularity as of late.

The power is huge on the 6550's, but the tone for me is still EL34 - if it doesn't come around I'll swap 'em out, but I am giving it a while...I do know I've heard amazing things about the 6550's offering a whole new sonic dimension, so patience Young Grasshoppah!! :poke:
