"I cannot play guitar." Rockabilly legend Brian Setzer reveals he has an auto-immune disease that prevents him from playing guitar.

That’s rough. Whenever I hear stories like this I think of how devastatingly soul crushing that must be. The thing you’ve loved your entire life. I guess the positive side is at least he got to do it for a long time.

He was a badass that’s for sure.

I can’t compare myself to him but I’m kinda weird. When I first went to shit and realized I was done playing I just said fuck it…. After lots of pt and pretty much relearning how to use my right hand I started up again. Now I fight muscle cramps and my arms going numb. I will never play live but it is what it is. I just have fun with it and don’t give no fucks…

Probably some form of psoriatic or rheumatoid arthritis - both autoimmune disorders.

I remember when they blew up in the early 80’s…hard to believe they did as well as they did doing the rockabilly played by punk looking dudes…. Talented musicians….

I’m a firm believer in trying alternative methods of healing. My son was basically shut down from shin splints… he’s 6’6” still growing… buddy suggested I take him to a local guy who does acupuncture and after three treatments he’s great…crazy….

I have this, and it can be so aggravating to play guitar during a flare up.

My picking hand is the worst, as it goes completely numb and I cannot feel anything.

It can be very disheartening and depressing. I basically don't play at all in late spring and summer...as I am constantly working with my hands.

I have a homemade ointment I use, which contains cannabis, that helps. But greasy oily hands are another issue.

It isn't predictable at all, so I understand how Brian feels. Hard to schedule shows and foster goodwill with fans, when you might have to cancel last minute. Sucks.

I'm only in my mid 40s too, so I can imagine it will get progressively worse. But for now, I just use it, until I lose it.

Mainly because it's the kind of bullshit statement that gets people talking about getting rid of measles and polio vaccines. I don't personally care about the covid vaccine anymore because its lost a lot of its virulence. However, measles was the number one childhood killer for a long time and it essentially vanished in the US after the vaccine. And its not triggering, the word "the jab" just sounds fucking stupid like calling a Les Paul a "Lester" or using the term guitfiddle.
And I'm a doctor and take care of some people who were old enough to have fucking polio! People quickly generalize shit in both directions.
