I can't choose!

I played a VH4, Herbert and Schmidt side-by-side today and think I will buy one of them, but I don't know which one. I really can't decide. They all have a similar character, but each do something the others can't and I don't know what my priority is at the moment.

VH4: Channel 3 is insane. I'd buy the amp just for it. Cleans: not so good, comparatively. Channel 2 and 4: useable but don't stand out as much as channel 3.

Herbert: Channel 2 and mid-cut feature are awesome, the amp is a bit more versatile (to me) than the VH4 as it can get more high-gain sounds and it's also a bit less compressed.

Schmidt: has a sweeeeet clean and low-gain channel, especially with the reverb. It can get a good high-gain sound with channel 3 gain at 3:00 or maxed, but it's not as tight as the VH4 or Herbert (30 watts, Class A, I guess). It has a great volume sweep/taper! Very nice!

I play a little of everything, but a lot of progressive rock and metal. I need the Schmidt's clean channel, Herbert's mid-cut/channel 2+ and VH4's 3rd channel!

I'm just venting really, because I know I'm taking one of them home (as soon as someone buys my Bad Cat, *hint-hint*) and I can't choose which one. But, I think it's probably down to the VH4 or Herbert.

Dude, Herbert channel 3 !!!!! Gain a little above noon, and crank the mids.
It blows away chan 2+ IMO. (or I can't dial that one correctly??  )

I don't use the mid-cut anymore. might be because I got some KT-88.

The clean is great too, with or w/out mid-cut engaged.

Edit: All herbie would need is a tube reverb, like in fender amps. That would be brilliant.

I would have to agree, get the Herbie.

I wanted a VH4, but even with it's 4 channels, I find the 3 on the Herbert are more versatile, and the cleans sound much nicer in my opinion.

You didn't try the best one the Einstein :) Most organic and natural sounding of the high gainers imo

No bells and whistles just simple kick ass diezel tone in a rockin package.

THE ALL MIGHTY HERBERT!!!

The cleans are immaculate, which is rare for a high gain amp IMO, and Ch3 is just brilliant!

also a cat on top would make it sound better so be sure to invest in one of those ;)

+1 on the Einstein..

CH2 more or less equals VH4's CH3 / 4 (IMO); in fact: I like it better!
CH1 has a 3 modes, going from clean to mega and all in between.

I'd say, go for the Schmidt as you easily can dial in a heavy metal sound. The eq in channel2/3 is massively working to get tons of different sounds and is sensitive enough to get all the nuances you want from a boutique amp.
The Schmidt has a beautiful reverb on board and one of the best balanced fx-loops I ever found on an amp.

I chose the Schmidt after comparing a lot of different amps, the Bad Cat beeing one of them

One thing I forgot: Next time you check the Schmidt, turn channel 1 all the way up und let the littlun show everyone what a 30W-monstercrunchsound is...

..possibly it's your the last time in this shop  but it's worth it

All three are used (so the price is good) and they didn't have an Einstein, so I don't think it's going to be included in my decision lineup. I did thoroughly check out each amp and played with the volume settings on the Schmidt a lot (yep, got it cranked way up on each channel), so I know what I'm dealing with. I still can't decide! Schmidt is close to my Bad Cat, but better. But, I don't think I want another 30 watt Class A amp at the moment.

I say Herbert. I haven't played any of the other diezel models, but what I can say is I am very happy with my Herbert.

The Clean is as good as it gets, and channel 3 with the mid cut is massive and brutal. Click to channel two and you've got a plexi type sound on - and hi gain marshally sound on the + setting. THe herbert pretty much can cover everything.

My only complaint is I wish the Herbert (could double for the VH4 too) had spring reverb.

Get both!!

If you can only choose one the Herbert. I owned the Vh4 for 9 yrs great amp I loved it and like you said the 3rd channel is to die for.
But the Herbert is an all around better sounding amp with a ton more versiatility. My opinion it picks up where the Vh4 leaves off.

I could potentially get both for $6,000. lol.... not gonna happen.

I'm probably going to go for the Herbert.... but man, the VH4 has been on my want list for like 10 years. When I stop back into the store to pick out which one I want, I'll play them both side-by-side again and see if I can make up mind.

I might be interested in trading my '04 Herbert + Case for your Bad Cat Hot Cat + 2x12 Cab. PM me if interested & we can work out the details.

I've decided to wait until Diezel makes an amp with the Schmidt's clean channel, Einsteins mid-gain tones, Herbert's channel 2 and VH4's channel 3. When that happens I'll buy. :)

I doubt that will happen any time soon.... so, I have someone stopping by tomorrow to look at/buy my Bad Cat, then I'm off to the store on Friday to get either the Herbert or VH4.

Either will be a good decision. Good luck in making a difficult choice and if you are anything like the rest of us, you will be completely happy with he amp you get but still want the one you didn't choose. :D
