I picked this up this week. This is a 1982 PROCO RAT! Original big box! These are some of the most sought after RAT pedals in PROCO history! Very early production from PROCO in Kalamazoo Michigan.
Looking at the gut shots, you’ll see that the pots date it to 1982. You’ll also the the, all-important, LM308 ship. This RAT is all original, not modded and in EX CONDITION!
If you have never played a RAT before, first off, WHY NOT? Lol. The RAT is balls out ROCK!!! But it will also act as a great mid/treble boost too. But it will also melt the skin off your face!!!
Is it the best OD of all time? No. But IMO, it’s top 5.
These are becoming harder to find these days. You don’t have to have a 1982 BIG BOX to achieve the classic RAT TONE….but I’d suggest one pre 89. Changes were made in 1989 that changed the overall tone of the RAT. I’m not saying they sound like poo in 89, just not quite the same. I’ve had a 88, 84 and a 82. My opinion and my ear say the 84 and 82 sounded the best.
