RIP Davy Jones. I watched the Monkeys all the time when I was a kid.

the monkees were a wee bit before my time, but i used to listen to my mom's old 45s of 'last train to clarksville/take a giant step,' 'i'm a believer/steppin stone,' and 'daydream believer/goin down' when i was a kid pretending to host my own radio show.

RIP

In the mid-80's MTV replayed their TV series and I was hooked. They were my first musical obsession. I saved up my money to buy every single LP and cassette. They're the reason I play guitar. I wanted to have Davy's hair. I had to have a hollowbody guitar cuz that's what they played.

RIP Davy.

Very sad - R.I.P. Davy. He died so young - 66.

On TV LAND here in San Diego Cox cable they always play all the Monkees re-runs. I love their opening, you know "Here we come, walkin' Down the street. We get the funniest looks from Ev'ry one we meet.

Big part of my afternoon TV lineup after high school in the 80's. The Flinstones, Munsters, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, The Monkees, Get Smart (if I was lucky, Petticoat Junction if I was unlucky) and Star Trek.

It's funny all the talk about them being disgruntled about being TV pop stars when they wanted to be a respected band but they actually had some great songs that stand the test the time. I'm not sure how many they wrote themselves, if any, but I hope they finally relaxed and realized they did good.

R.I.P. Davy.

The Monkee's show was damn funny. Always enjoyed it when I was young

Snuff Garrett, Neil Diamond, the Boyce-Hart partnership, Jack Keller, Gerry Goffin and Carole King, Harry Nilsson, Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, and many other highly regarded writers had songs recorded by the Monkees ....
Peter and Michel are actually pretty talented writers and musicians.
The Monkees used additional musicians including The Wrecking Crew, Louie Shelton, Glen Campbell, members of the Byrds and the Association, drummer "Fast" Eddie Hoh, Lowell George, Stephen Stills, Buddy Miles and Neil Young.

Funny, this was MY afternoon TV lineup in the 70's (except for Petticoat Junction)!
