I found Tom Peck and his company , Pedal-Racks, on the web awhile ago. The site is http://www.pedalboards.com/ . I was going to have him build me a board but I ended up having something that worked perfectly already. Ive always been a stickler for a good pedalboard setup for a variety of reasons; protecting my pedals, making setup and tear down as fast and simple as possible and something that would let me worry more about playing than tap dancing.
Ive always designed my rig to be modular if you will; something that is already 95% put together and could be up and running or packed up in under 5 min. It took a couple of design changes to do it but Im there now and its friggin awesome!!!
First off , let me tell you what Tom custom built for me. On my pedal board, Im running an X2 wireless receiver>Boss Tu-2> EB VP jr>Vox wah> Banshee talk box. theres also an Axxess MFC-5 Midi controller to change presets.
The wireless, tuner and Wah run on 9vdc but the Banshee runs on 9vac. So I had to have a One spot for the dc and a transformer for the ac hooked up to an extension cord like most people. Ive never liked that because alot of times, its hard to find power at the the front of the stage and I hate having more cables than I need anywhere.
I saw on Tom's site that he made custom power supplies to do just that; remove the transformers from the board and have them back at the amp, just what I was looking for!!! So I gave him a call, we discussed it and last Friday, I got the unit in the mail and its the friggin goods!!!
Tom installed the 2 transformers in a virtually indestructable cast box. The box has a locking XLR socket on it and its roughly 2x2x3. Theres also a power cord to plug into the 120v; I had mine prewired but he also does it IEC if you want that. He then made up a custom 25ft snake that has a Neutrick Multipin connector on the amp end and 2 pig tails for the Ac and the Dc at the board end. The workmanship is beautiful but the best part is that the whole thing was well under 100 bucks!!! I contacted several rack builders and they quoted over 400 , crazy!!!
Now heres the cool thing; The power cable is getting put together in a snake with my midi cable and my signal cable. When gig time comes, I open the back of my rack, take the snake out , run it to my board and hook up signal, midi and power. Then I plug the rack into the 120 and the cab into the amp, turn the amp on wail when everyone is still carrying in gear. At the end of the night, Im packed and on to cocktails when everyone else is still breaking down, cool l stuff...
Tom is a great guy and gigs with one of Long Islands longest running bar bands so he knows his stuff. He builds all kinds of custom pedalboards to your specs at very reasonable prices in addition to building custome bypass strips, power supplies and accessories. If youre looking for a great custom board, this is your first and last stop IMO..
