Hey Bruce....I just wanted to tip my hat to you on this one because it sounds amazing. I still gig 2-4 nights per week and have ALWAYS used single channel amps with my pedalboard. This is the first amp that I feel fine about leaving the board at home. We play country and rock and I am blown away by how nice it sounds with my Nocaster and the Les Paul. I encourage everyone to try these. Simply bitchin!!

Wow, that's saying something...considering the other amps that you own!! Egnater's are really something else

That 4x10 is a killer setup! I just have the 4x10 combo..and it sounds amazing!! Would have loved to play a Renegade through it...but my Mod50 is a "great substitute for sure" :)

Did play a Renegade at GC Monday afternoon. Killer amp. But..not enough for me to buy one next to my Mod50 / Mod100 / M4! If I didn't have the Mod50/100 / M4 already...I'd get one for sure!

 Slut   The Renegae is a very nice sounding amp!!I just have no more room

nice man, thanks for feeding my gas! :gethim:

I'll probably buy a 4x10 cab to go along with the Renegade and my Princeton Reverb RI!

Since you're a blues fanboi you should totally get one of these man. Definitely well worth it! :)

Hell yeah I will man. I got the TM 2x12 because of the stereo cab thing and because I only have one cab so far and it's got V30s which I like but it was time for something different. And I want to use it with my VH4 also, which I think won't sound that well through a 4x10 (or at least not as great)

but my next Egnater purchase will be the 4x10 and the E2 with the COD module (don't know which what else yet) FOR SURE

Not to burst your bubble here...but the TM212 doesn't have Vintage 30s, it has Celestion Elite 80s..which are a slightly modified CL80. Should do some more research before you buy.

Dude...the VH4 will sound good through it. My EG5 sounds killer through the 4x10...its VERY SURPISING how well nearly everything sounds great through that 4x10.

The 4x10 can be stereo also.

No, I already have a V30 loaded cab.. (Framus 2x12) and I wanted something dif. this time, that's why I bought the TM 2x12 that have the CE80 :)

Nice to know the 4x10 handles the high gain thing... I was a bit worried it would not handle the massive amount of low end the VH4 produces. It's ok anyways later on a v30s cab, a CE80 (maybe later change one of the speakers for sometihng dif.) and a 4x10!

btw, how do the Celestion Eline 80 sound? what can expect from them being used to v30s? (specially for the cleans/midgain stuff ?

A Elite 80 is it's own beast. Has a similar vibe to a T75 with more low mids and mid mids. The top end is slightly rolled off compared to a V30. I personally love the Elite 80 mixed w/ other speakers like a G12K100 / K85 or V30. Mixes really well other speakers.

On the 410..it's a 10" speaker...so it's not gonna massive lows like a 4x12 will. It'll be more low mid / mid heavy...which is killer! The boys at egnater really did a great job with that cab. I was PLEASANTLY surprised. Having owned Fender Super Reverb 4x10s before and Marshall 4x10s before...i was curious to see how this stood up...and it really stands up really well across the modular spectrum for sure! :)

To be clear (and maybe we are), mine is a 4x10 COMBO...not a head and seperate cab. As I understand it, not too many were built (but they were certainly a hit at NAMM). It is loaded with Elite 1065 speakers which are custom tweak on our G10 Vintage. I believe there are clips of the 4x10 combo on youtube. Oh, and I'm still loving it. Tomorrow night it will hit the stage for the first time.

Oh yeah man...you were clear! I have the 4x10 cabinet..not combo... That Elite 1065 is a KILLER speaker man. I love the cabinet! Great work!! Have fun w/ the combo on stage....that's gonna sound killer!

Cool, thanks. BTW, I've always wanted a M4...what power amp are you using?

Rick, be sure and report back how the 410 rocked the house!!

I'm using, as most of us are, the Randall RT2/50. I've used the VHT 2/90/2 and the Randall w/ the M4, and like the Randall the best honestly.

Great choice to go w/ the M4 for sure!! Especially if you would want to use 6L6's with the fender modules and EL34s w/ the marshall modules. I personally use it w/ 6550s in stereo.

The Renegade 4x10 rocked at lastnights gig....simply stunning. I used the clean channel on 65w with the gain and vol both near 1 o'clock, and then master 1 at 2 o'clock..this made for a nice level boost when I hit the master switch. The bass was straight up, treble at 1 o'clock, and the mids at 11 o'clock. The reverb was set to taste and the sound was bitchin both with the Les Paul and the Nocaster. I also set channel the same regarding the master. I ran the gain at 3 o'clock which made for a nice modded Marshall tone. I had a DL4 delay in the loop and then a wah out front. For giggles I also ran a Barber Direct Drive out front which sounded nice through the clean channel....a brighter low to mid gain tone. FWIW I ran this channel at 18w for half the night at then switched to 65w later. The difference was more in the character of the tone then the volume...both setting were cool. I ran all of the bright switches on...same with the tight switch. I also kept the density knob turned low. This may sound like it was bright but it was really just right when heard back through my monitor. The 4x10 can is big so the low end can take off on you, but the above mentioned settings worked like a charm. It cut through without being harsh at all. I own a number of "boutique" amps and this amps stands on its own against any of them. Bruce did a beautiful job on this badboy!

Man, that's sweet......I knew it would be killer. I gotta get me one of them 410's!

Thanks for the gig report Rick!

I am so stoked to hear this from an actual 410 owner! There doesn't seem to be many 410 owner's posting actual results from live gigs (or anything else for that matter... how many dozen were made?). I am hoping I can report similar results after rebuilding mine... :aww:

I just picked up a shipping-damaged 410 Renegade combo for a very good price. It wasn't supposed to be shipping damaged but supposedly had some other problem. Whoever packed this thing for shipment (Not Egnater, probably a customer or the retailer's shipping droid) wrapped the caster wheels in a single layer of bubblewrap and put the footswitch & power cord in a large zip bag, put these in the bottom of the cabinet, then gently put the padded cover on and lovingly double-boxed packing over the combo.

Now, they FLIP this bad boy over upside down :gethim: (which is desirable for low center of gravity) to ship it and the heavy accessories in the bottom of the combo cabinet FALL past the speakers (taking a few small chunks of ferrite magnet material off the speakers on the way), scraping the inside of the cabinet and DECIMATING 3 of the 4 output tubes! Many tube pins bent at near 90 degrees, broken glass and tube carcasses floating around inside, a small dent in the PT bell cover and a few scrapes and marks on the amp chassis itself! The footswitch looks like it has been through a war yet I doubt it has ever actually been plugged into the amp!

Surprisingly, once the carnage was cleaned up the amp looks awesome! Externally, the build quality and materials looks great and much better than I had hoped. This weekend I will be removing the chassis to assess if there was any damage to the tube sockets or internal circuitry before I even attempt to apply power and install/bias new output tubes.

I have high hopes for the amp's performance but I will need to carefully perform reconstructive surgery before I can hope to have a similar live music experience and will report on my progress and probably start a new thread (if this becomes a major project)! My initial goal is to have the amp functioning to play a gig in a nice large room 7 days from now. Wish me luck.

FWIW: One of my all-time favorite clean amps (which I still play regularly) is my 1979 Music Man 410-65 combo. I was thrilled that Egnater chose to package the Renegade in a 410 form factor so elegantly (with a birch plywood cabinet to boot!)!

Well, phase one of the Renegade 410 restoration is complete!

I first turned-on the amp without output tubes (or schematics) and the amp didn't turn on! Let me re-phrase that... there were no pilot lights illuminated on the front panel. The PT was humming a little bit and I saw the filaments lighting up in the preamp tubes so I knew SOMETHING was getting power! I pulled out my Fluke 73 meter & trusty wooden chopstick probe and start poking around and found 2 problems.

First, a quick disconnect connector was stressed to the point that it broke inside the clear tubing so it held together but the pressure placed on it from the wire bundle being too tight (with no service loop) had pulled the wire free from the connector and no continuity was the result. I removed the broken Fast-On connector, replaced it & pulled a little more length through the wire bundle to prevent an encore.

Next, I found that one of the plastic fuse holders on the far left (viewing from the front panel) had a broken pin and only one side was actually soldered into the circuit board. Since the pin broke, I removed the fuse holder from the board, soldered some wire leads to the contacts, insulated it with heatshrink tubing, soldered the wires to the PCB pads and affixed the holder to the chassis with a piece of VHB double-backed foam tape.

The amp now turned on, the footswitch worked and all the tube voltages looked good. I installed a pair of NOS Tesla EL34LS output tubes (on the EL34 side) and a new pair of Electro-Harmonix 6CA7EH (on the 6L6 side), biased them up according to the recommendations in the manual (but the 6CA7s were biased a bit colder than the EL34s for little higher headroom). I then confirmed output power and smooth noise-free operation of all controls and functions (all the while with the amp connected to a bench load and the output monitored on an analog oscilloscope).

While I was "under the hood", I elected to install an NOS JAN Philips 12AX7WA (long plate) in V1 (Clean channel), a selected (low microphonics) JJ ECC83S in V3 (Gain Channel) and a selected (balanced halves) JJ ECC83S in V6 (Phase Inverter). These tubes had no apparent noise problems (i.e. shot noise or sizzling) or microphonics and were very quiet. The JJs were pre-tested and selected by Bob Pletka at Eurotubes.

I reassembled the amp and did a static burn-in for 3-hours while occasionally checking for microphonics, control noise and anything else I could learn about the amp without actually playing through it. It was late and I didn't want to wake the wife! The only potential problem I noted was when Channel 2 had its Gain & Volume controls turned up past about 2 o'clock the amp squeals (with no input). The squeal can be "adjusted" with the Treble control, bright switch and Presence control as I expected. I need to look into this with a guitar connected but I expect that there may be a tad too much gain (or a problem with wire-dress) in this channel as it is currently tubed-up.

I really like the serviceability and layout of the amp. Despite some overly-tight wire harnessing and lack of attention to the minor details (like heatsinks and regulator tabs too close to electrolytic caps and caps/resistors sometimes bent dangerously close to adjacent pads and components), the amp seems to be well built and layed-out. I LOVE the chassis mounting method with 4 large "hidden" bolts. I wish everyone would mount their chassis in a similar fashion!

Tomorrow I plug in a guitar and see what it SOUNDS like! That will be the big payoff for my day of amp rebuilding and repair (I also dug into a non-functioning Marshall Haze 40 but will have to get some parts before I can finish it up, even though it does now work).
