I know we, as cocky guitarists, ignore you guys, but this is to all you bass players

Is there legitimately anyone in the world, playing or retired, that is a better bass player than Charles Berthoud? I've been watching lots of videos of his the last several days. I've been familiar with him for a little while now, but seriously, is there anyone as creative, while still able to keep it simple and fun, with the insane level of technique and spot-free cleanliness on the thicker strings as him?

This isn't a fanboy post, like I'm actually curious if there is anyone better that can do as much as or more than he can and still make it palatable?

Charles is Victor Wooten level player, he rips!

1) Does he own a P-Bass or Music Man Stringray?

2) I know he can funk, but can he shuffle?

That's all that matters in terms of a bassist to me.

I'm not sure from a pure technical and impressiveness level if there is anyone as good as Charles Bertoud. I will say the fist bassist that comes ot mind when I think of a bassist using his technical skills to elevate music in a band context for heavy music is Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne. He is an incredibly talented bassist who managed to take his distinct technical lines and really get them to sit perfectly with that band and take it to the next level.

Amazing bass player and a hell of a nice guy too.

My favorite Bassist is Jacob Umansky, but its hard to argue that charles has any competition in terms of technique. Victor Wooten is a lot of peoples number one all time and hes still alive. Henrik Linder of Dirty Loops is also crazy good

There’s that little girl, funk bassist, who we’ve posted on here once or twice, who I can only imagine will be a monster when she’s older. She does the fun comp vid’s that her dad shoots for her.

Charles is pretty bad ass in a nice guy kind of way. Davy504 or whatever his real name might be; I feel is pretty awesome too, but I don't know how well he performs live. I feel that he was definitely a big part in getting Charles name out there, too. He can be a it strange, though.

This thread desperately needs clips of this dudes. Lay it down. :rawk:

That’s just sick. It amazes me how talented some people are.

Most really good bassists can play a bunch of different styles. Few can play them all like Charles can. He makes everything look effortless. Granted, these are definitely youtube vids with him picking the best take to upload...but they all look and sound like a masterclass in technique and execution. And by all accounts, he's a really nice dude. But then again, the devil always looks attractive...

Are you suggesting he's the devil? I mean, he IS a ginger, but c'mon man... lol

I heard him say a while back that it takes a lot of effort and takes to get his vids down.
