Man took my preamp/poweramp, and my RG100ES to rehearsal last night, along side of my Mark IV. I've been REALLY picky about my Mark IV lately, and been tweaking like mad during rehearsal. So, I broke out the Randalls, GOD I love them, they sound incredible. No tempremental (-sp) tubes, etc... just balls to the wall TONE, every time you turn it on.

A friend brought over an old Warhead, God I want one of those, it's got this nastiness that the old RG dont really have, would be nice to add to the arsenal...

Just thought I'd share.

I broke out my old RG80PH the other night. I have been on the fence about whether or not I should sell it and get something else, maybe a Peavey Windsor or a Sovtek Mig. I like the Randall sometimes but it gets pretty noisy when it gets warmed up and I just can't get good recordings out of it. I A/B it with my Chameleon/Classic 120 setup and still like that much better. With that said, those old Randalls are still a great value in what they can deliver for the money.

Hell I've paid 5-10 times the amount these go for an amp and wasnt even close to as good.

+1 to the old Randalls!!!

I used to own a late '80's RG80ES 2x12 halfstack (snakeskin tolex too!) that just fuckin' ripped. This thing was not very versatile at all, but what it did it did very well!!!

I missed that sound until I picked up that RGP1000 preamp from you last year! But this beast has some versatility that I didn't have in the RG80ES. I can now easily get from COC tone to a dimebag tone, and still dial in that balls-out Lynch type tone that the RG80 seemed to excel at

the old rg100ht rack head was just killer for it's time..

my buddy had one and I preferred it over the jubillee series marshall I had at the time...

unfortunately, i don't ever have enough money to keep trying out bad ass heads all the time; but, i usually buy one or two used heads every year. the only head that stays in use is my randalls. i was getting bored with it for a while, til i started using a boss bass eq in the loop, now its the king again. they're just easy to dial in, real aggressive amps, with an ass of power.
what is it about the markIV thats giving you fits? i'm asking cuase i'm gassing for a mesa right now. i was thinking of saving for a markIII, markIV, or a single rec.
i've been listening to cryptopsy, and the black dahlia murder too much. i was told those bands used boosted recs.?
i'd probably play it for a bit, then sell it cause i liked my randalls more.

It's not giving me fits, I'm just excessively picky about my tube amps, always have been, if you havent noticed. ;) I just get annoyed at times if my tone isnt consistant, and I HATE trying to write if my tone isnt "there". Thats why I ALWAYS have my trusty Randalls, cause if the "tube amp" isnt getting it donr, then I can usually plug into a Randall that'll inspire me.

:D

have you used a boost on it? just wondering what a mark series sounds like with a boost. for that slinky grindy sound like cryptopsy.

There's just something nice about the simplicity and tone coming from those old Randalls. I have a mid 80's RG80ES and both the top & bottom 2x12 Jaguar cabinets to match covered in the grey carpet. It always sound the same, like a Randall. Definately fits where tube amps won't. They are in my opinion the best sounding solid state amps out there.

Yea I use a boost with it, sometimes. I LOVE the Mark IV. dont get me wrong, I just havent played my Randalls in a awhile, and always love how suprised I am when I do. :)

I'm not familiar with crytopsy......hmm...
