Racks are ghey..... If you're happy with your sound, why would you want to mess with it? I don't think it would be THAT much more convenient to set up. I think you just can't help but buy and sell stuff hehe.

Not too serious about this yet, but have been thinking about it a little. I wouldn't mind have a small rolling rack with an effects unit, GP3, VHT power amp, and rack drawer in it for gigs. I'd then just leave it in the trailer. I'd only have to run a small midi pedal out front, which would be convenient.
I dunno...

Yeah... I don't really play guitar anymore at home anyway. But if I wanted to play at home, I still have the D60/D412 rig there.

Oh yeah, it would be alot more convenient to setup. If I wanted to use my Intellifex with my rig now, I'd have to carry around a rack and small midi board to control it. Then I'd have the small midi board, my UL controller, and my small pedalboard all on the stage in front of me. I'd have to run extra power for the small midi board and rack, then extra cables to connect the rack to the UL's effects loop. Certainly not a HUGE deal, but definitely more crap to carry around and connect.
If I did the rolling rack thing, I'd have the preamp, poweramp and Intellifex all in the rack. I'd just run the small midi controller to the front of the stage and it would control both the preamp and effects unit simultaneously. Everything in the rack would stay connected all the time (obviously) and I'd basically just have to run a speaker cable and midi cable to the controller. That's it.
So yeah, it would definitely be more convenient. Also, I take my UL home with me every gig. Mainly because I don't have a roadcase and aren't willing to fork out the money for one. But if I had the rack rig, I'd leave that in the trailer.
I probably won't do this, but it does sound like a good idea on paper.

LOL... The only rack rig I've owned (with a pre and power amp) was that Mesa Triaxis rig. That only lasted for a few days, as I just didn't get along with it.
I've always used a head and sometimes a small single space rack effects unit. I'm kind of afraid of a rack. I've heard others say they just don't sound like the head version of the same rig.
SgtThump":d9181 said:moronmountain":d9181 said:I've heard that as well, but IF I were to get a rack it would be the GP3/2150. You could put year head in a rack case and get one of them controller thingies that lets you make patches using your pedals, and can control your switching and effects unit. Putting a head in a rack is no different than what you're describing is it?
Putting the head in a case with a 4 space rack or so isn't that different than what I'm describing. It would involve one of those switching thingies you're talking about (what are they anyway?), so I can use midi to change settings/channels on the UL and patches on the effects unit with one stomp.
I guess it would also be more expensive, since those head/rack cases are like $400+ and I'd have to buy the amp switchy thing. Then it would be a bigger rig too.

Oh c'mon, get the sand out of your vagina! I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but it has been on my mind. I probably won't. There's nothing I don't like about the UL at all. I just wouldn't mind getting back into slight reverb for rhythms, some delay for lead, and maybe chorus here and there for the heck of it. But I'm not THAT gung ho about it.
SgtThump":dc9bd said:moronmountain":dc9bd said:You're officially dead to me!!!!!!! /rips shirt and says something in Hebrew.........
REVERB IS GHEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing you need is a wah and a delay pedal. I guess chorus for clean, but THAT'S IT! Well a whammy pedal too, but NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!! Except MAYBE, and I say MAYBE a flanger, but I SWEAR THAT'S IT!
LOL! The only effect I've been using live now for probably 9 months is a BYOC Phaser. That's it! Like I said, I do miss some delays on the leads, though. Ehhhhhhh, I don't know if I miss it enough to screw with it right now. If I was in a 1 guitar band, I'd definitely have my crutches... er... I mean effects at all times. But in a loud two guitar band, you don't miss them THAT much.
ABSOLUTLY are you?SgtThump":c12ad said:HMJ":c12ad said:St. Louis style polka or pizza its all the same

Hell no. Wish I was, though. I'm coming down with flu-like symptoms and it's been a rough day. Spent most of it in the bathroom, if you get my drift. lol

a gp3/2150 would obviously be superior to a UL in every way except weight/portability.
