I need more tones - Add a 2nd M4? Or add an Axe-Fx?

Need more tones & versatility. Something more modern for Nickelback/3 Doors Down type stuff, so probably an Erect for sure. And then something to do more Boogie combo tones. Maybe a COD or Bman?

The other two slots will be a 2nd D/D and a 2nd VX. I'd like to have more EQ options because I can't get the my Twin to sound right without sacrificing the Deluxe. And I also can't get my clean Vox to sound right without sacrificing the dirty Vox.

Or should I just add an Axe-Fx?

Depends man....someone like yourself..I'd probably say the AxeFX. Since you do live sound all the time, I know you aren't afraid to get into a rack unit and mess with it at a gig. Me on the other hand, I'd rather have a bunch of knobs to mess with ;).

Ultimate Flexibility goes to the AxeFX, especially in your rig. I personally just love my Eggie preamps...that I just found myself always defaulting to the M4 honestly. It's the reason my AxeFX is going up for sale. I love my MPXG2 so much, and I really know how to get good tones out of it. I mainly use it for Reverb, Delay, tremelos, and other weird stuff. I'm personally going to go back to having a Line 6 Filter / Mod Pro in my rig. I used them awhile ago, and loved them. Won't use them tons...but they will be fun to have around again. That and I am going to move to running my effects in parallel with a CAE Line Mixer.

I'm thinking I'll get an Axe-Fx down the road, maybe build a girly rack for super small gigs. You're right, definitely not afraid of tweaking the shit outta the Axe-Fx, but with mixing on digital consoles so much lately, I'm kinda sick of it. Twisting a few knobs is sometimes easier, quicker, and maybe more rewarding..?

Another issue is I'm outta loops, so I'll have to upgrade my 8 loop GCX so I can switch between two M4's. I'm really liking the 12 loop Effects Gizmo from RJM. Does Ron post on this site? I wonder if they're ready to ship yet..

Oh, and I'm reading your PM now Eric..

I'd definitely get the 12 loop from RJM and get another M4 ;)

It's all good man about the PM. I figured you'd get to it when you could! :)

I'm really happy with 2 M4s in my rack and a Mod50. The RJM 12 looper would be great and free up a space in my rig.

For recording or gigs? If for recording, just swap modules for the part!

For gigs, I don't worry about it much - the audience doesn't care. I would be fine with a few modules and a boost for any gig....and the M4 can hold 4! You should be set. :D

I have to jump in here and say, get an Axe Fx. I have one along with the M4 and if you've already got an Egnater Modular amp, then the Axe will give you alot more than another 4 modules will. My flame suit is on but let's try to be objective. I'm not saying one device is better than another. I'm saying that if you have one already, then get the other.

The Axe Fx is just nuts. There is so much in it and you obviously can use it to put stomp sims in front of the M4 as well as other rack type effects after it. You'd have the best of both worlds.

I'd say Axe. I'm running an RM4 and M4 W/D and the tones are insane but I think I can get there and cheaper with the Axe. I wish I could try one out around OH it would really cement the decision.

Have you talked to Jeff about maybe tweaking your T/D? I'm sure he could try and address whatever EQ complaints you have. Alternatively, you could track down or get something tweaked to a T/V module - something that's IIRC according to Bruce/Jeff kind of like a Twin circuit with a Vox EQ. That could possibly kill two birds with one stone for you.
