Hey everyone,

First of all, thanks for your help regarding a power amp! It's great to be able to get help from people who know so much and who have more experience than me.

I've been trying to set up a new guitar rack since my old Marshall head blew on me almost a month ago. Due to an unfortunate turn of events (eye doctor bills + new glasses with no insurance, family layoff, etc), my power amp budget basically disappeared  because I'm trying to save some money back for this year at college as well. My question is this: should I continue to try to put this rack together and try to get a solid state power amp? I have the M4 with two modules, the (Randall) blackface and XTC, arriving Monday. OR should I sell the M4 w/ the modules and go for something like a Rebel 30 / Renegade or maybe a used Tourmaster? I used to have a Rebel 20, but I traded it for something a little more powerful. At this point, since I've been tracking stuff down across a month so far, I'm not in a hurry to get a new amp, but it does feel wrong to not be using the Tourmaster 412 in my room (and I hate using the little Vox practice amp...modeling other amps just isn't the same)...

I'm heavily leaning towards selling the M4. Although it seems like the best amp I've ever had, I may not be able to get the best out of it due to my new limitations.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any advice you guys have!

I had another thought since I posted my questions. I live in the middle of IL, so the closest repair shop is over an hour away. How much do you think it would cost to repair my old amp? It's a Marshall 6100. I think that one of the power tube sockets is a little burned, and it blows the mains fuse.

Thanks!

Don't sell the M4! You will regret it. Get the Marshall fixed; shouldn't be that much. Run the M4 into the power section of the Marshall. You'll be good to go.

Have you tried the M4 with the Rebel20 ?Should be nice  (i know you don't have the Rebel anymore.. :( !)Yeah,go repair the Marshall,it should be easy and cheap...

I'd take the amp to Kevin @ Uncle Albert's in Indianapolis. He'll make it good as new. He's the best amp tech in the midwest IMHO (minus Jeff / Bruce ;) ).

Where in IL you from? I'm from Normal, IL :)

Hey Eric,

I'm down in Decatur. I go through Bloomington/Normal to and from school about once every month and a half between August and May for school (I take 39 all of the way up to WI). I only know of a couple of places here in central IL for repair work, but I know of a few down in St. Louis since I'm constantly down there too. I'm thinking about having my Marshall fixed (maybe even to sell it). It's the 30th Anniversary 6100 which to me, sounded awesome through a V30 cabinet.

I just don't know what I want to do since I don't have a power amp yet for my M4..
