I so wish the Rebel 20 had built in reverb!

Man, I feel the need to rant! I wish the Rebel had reverb! I love the distortion of this amp. A lot! But I hate running effects through the loop of an amp if I can't fully bypass the loop when not in use. I use reverb for soloing, and it sucks that I can't have it when the amp is at hi-gain. Still, I stuck a Hardwire RV-7 in the loop today. But I just can't stand having my "pre-amped" signal running out and back in when I'm not using the reverb. Fully bypassing the loop when not in using would be nice, like in a Fender Super-sonic or my Mesa Lonestar. Having built in reverb would be even better.

I know, I know. You all are going to say... Get one of the Renegades when they come out! But still!

Did you try that little "Tail-switch" in position "OFF" in the RV-7 to use real bypass function ?

Why? Do you hear the difference when inserting effects in the loop? Is there actually any tone suckage?

Kiteboarder - I'm kinda the same way with loops. Even though the effect might be true bypass, mentally, it drives me crazy to run all that wire and know that my signal is going thru 40' feet of extra cable when the reverb is off.

There is a product called the Nobels ALEX-1.

Basically, it's a true-bypass box that is controlled remotely by a footswitch. It uses a relay to do the switching inside.

SO basically, you can have your reverb pedal on top of your amp, and only have to run 2' of cable to and from the pedal, and you can kick it on and off with the ALEX via a footswitch.

Does it make THAT much of a difference? I really can't tell ya. Mentally, though, in my own deranged mind, it made sense to me.

The effects loop is BUFFERED. 40' of cable is nothing! You crack me up sometimes Nicholas.

I am a complete and utter mental patient when it comes to effects loops, and true bypass.

If my tone signal path isn't 100% pure, I can't sleep at night.

RockStarNick - Exactly! It really messes with my head. I'm running the RV-7 in true-bypass, but I can swear I hear a difference! Again, it might be my mind playing tricks on me because I'm thinking of the extra feet of line taking my precious "pre-amped" signal along with it. Obviously, there's the hum of the loop typical with the Rebel. I still need to do the mod to fix that. I just haven't, because I'm not recording it yet. For live it isn't that bad, because the hum doesn't go up with the master button. So the overall volume drowns the hum. But eventually, for recording I'm going to have to fix it.

That bypass switch sounds like a good idea. The only thing is: $599 Rebel 20, $150 RV-7 + Whatever switch box costs = We are already in Rebel 30 Price territory.

That is true. And I know the Renegade 50 has a footswitchable bypass on the FX loop, which is an AWESOME idea. (had this on my first amp, a Carvin X100B. Great feature). I wonder if the rebel 30 has the footswitchable bypass FX loop? hmm. Can't remember from namm...

That must have been the day that me and Matt were drinking while walking the floor.

You need to get a job like mine where you work from home :). Works well when I am on the phone with our engineers in India and in Shanghai wanting to beat them senseless :).

I agree here. With the TM212 having the option to be both a closed and open back cab, and it just sounding plain amazing, I don't think I could find a better cab smaller than a 4x12. Minding that, if I wanted a really small super portable rig, the Eggie 1x12s are the way to go.
