have a few questions though...

A)Which module will get me closer to the Andy Timmons Resolution tone? I love it because its PHAT & full, warm, dynamic, smooth, kinda dark, yet it has some bite and attidute!! I'm torn between SL2, EG3/4, EG5 & MHG

B)what about cleans? T/D, T/V or BMAN?? again looking for phat & warm with the possibility to to have a slight breakup B channel that can be pushed with a pedal (bb preamp or similar) for a jazzy/melow signle note playing..

C)How does it goes along with OD pedals for boosting the input and delay/modulation pedals in the FX loop?

D)what about power tubes? has anyone tried 6V6 to drop the wattage and make the amp work harder??

I think thats all for now..

thanks

The worst part about ordering a Mod50 is the time after you order it when you realize that you will have one, but you just don't have it yet! Torture! I'm so anxious to get mine.

On that note, I'm getting the B'Man and EG3/4 for my needs. From what I've listened to it seems like they will cover the majority of styles. I know the SL2 and B'Man go together, per se, but I like the thicker, chewier sound of the EG3/4. Also, to me it seems a little less 80s.

A) Either SL2 or EG3/4. Andy used a 70s Marshall Superlead set to the edge of breakup and pushed over the edge with a tubescreamer to record Resolution (I LOVE the tone on that record! Andys playing doesnt hurt either!) So, in theory I want to say SL2, but the EG3/4 is definitely darker and smoother so its probably also a great choice. I play a Mahogany body strat style guitar and I can get really close with SL2, then I kick in the BB Preamp for his older more saturated Laney stuff. SL2 works for me because the Mahogany guitar is naturally a little darker. If you are using an Alder or Ash guitar, maybe EG3/4 is a better choice.

B) I think you want the Bassman. Now, I havent played it yet (soon!) but supposedly its a big, loud, warm clean on channel A and a nice bluesy pushed Deluxe on channel B. That said, I use the T/D and channel A is a big, pristine, clean Twin, and channel B is an awesome rootsy mid-gain. With a little reverb, my neck pickup, channel B on the T/D and the BB Preamp I can get dangerously close to Andy's "Electric Gypsy" tone on those BB Preamp demo videos.

C) BB Preamp works great with MOD 50. I use it to push the Deluxe side of the T/D and also to add some gain, compression, and sustain for leads on my high gain modules.

D) Ill let the other guys chime in here. Theres a few guys who LOVE 6V6 in the MOD 50. I might like it, but I like the punchiness of the Tung Sol 5881s that I never take them out.

These amps take a long time to get and are scarce on the used market for a reason. They deliver ultimate flexibility with no sacrifice in tone. That was previously unheard of . They are hard to get because Egnater cant make them fast enough and those that have them wont part with them. They are the real deal. Be patient. As our good friend John Czajkowski says, "when it finally comes, so will you"

From your description, I'd go Bassman and EG3/4.

6v6's are way cool. I have tried them and like them very much. It's just so much fun to swap out the power tubes.

You can really crank it up using the 6v6's which is of course is just plain fun!!

Oh and dude, don't "think" about getting a Mod 50.......just get one! :D

hey!! thanks for the answers!! I guess that i'll get the EG3/4 'cause i like it smooth and dark (maybe creamy) also both my suhr and anderson are alder, but i have another question about this module how well does it manages heavy rythm?? logicaly A for rythm and B channel for leads.

after some research i've done, i think i'll get it with Tung Sol 5881s..

and lastly, how well does it goes with V30s? my only cab is mesa vertical 2X12 with V30s and at first i'll use this and soon enough i'll get myself a 1X12 for the ease i sometimes need..

again thank you folks!!

konstantine,

Its hard to say because people have different ideas about what "heavy rhythm" is. Some people think Slayer, some Metallica, some Nickelback. Can you give an example band whose heavy rhythm tone you are looking to get close to.

Good choice on the Tung-Sol 5881s. They are killer.

And yes, the MOD 50 will sound great with your 2x12 Mesa cab. If you decide to get the Egnater 1x12 at some point (which I highly recommend!), go with a Classic Lead 80. It produces a little more bass than V30 which you need in a 1x12.

thanks for the response ethan!

when i say heavy rythm i dont really mean oversaturated or overdistorted tones, just heavy, full, thick and with attitude! Load & reload has same great rythm tones, for me anyway, the last sample of John with EG5 is great as well and rythm tones on Resolution (andy timmons) are awesome (resolution has propably the most amazing tones i've heard lately), think Redemption & Deliver Us.. the abillity to get SC tones of dream theater out of it is a plus but i have a mark iv for that anyway which can be tight, heavy and nasty if needed@!

anyway i have to say that lead and clean tones are more important for me...

PS BTW Kiko Loureiro's Universo Inverso has same great singin lead tones too...

Youre mentioning a few different tones there. E-Rect will get you closest to Load and Reload and most of the recent Dream Theater stuff. On Systematic Chaos, Petrucci used a Mark IV so youve already got that covered.

One module I didnt mention last time is the COD (California Overdrive) module that does a sort of Dumble / Mesa Mark thing. Its a real smooth lead players module. That would probably work GREAT for Timmons' style leads and is probably the closest thing to the Lonestar Andy uses live. That said, the EG3/4 would work fine too just with a more Marshall vibe (more like the CD actually).

Theres alot of ways to get the tone you want. Alot of it will be in your hands. Can you play like Andy? :D

I still think the most versatility will come with T/D and EG3/4 and that with that combination you will be able to get the tones you want and more.
