I think I've found my clean tone with the VX

I've been struggling with my clean tones since I bought the Mod50. Today I tried running the VX with the gain lower w/o the bright boost. I kept comparing it to my 2000TBX and feel that even know I'm not using the Blues with the Mod50 I'm getting in the ballpark. The tone sounds damn good to my ears.

So I have a question. I have a custom DLX-C that Bruce built for me. It sounds great but I'm a Vox guy. I'm looking to trade it for a Marshally module. For the music I'm playing I'm thinking either a SL or SL2X. Here's an example of a tone I could use on my gig. Cheesy tune but cool guitar tone.

Thanks guys,
Billy

For that tone...I'd go w/ a COD honestly.. Especially if you put a 500 - 1000pF cap on the vertical tube board's treble bleed circuit. Otherwise a SL would be best for that. Sl2 would be too much gain IMHO.

I have a COD for sale. ;) my Favorite mod  Does a gilmore hiwatt tone also

Jeff H .had posted this clip before I swear .although I could be wrong .I think they are using Egnater . I can't remember I thought it was a SL2 on the solo

I have the COD and I agree that it will kick that song in the A**! In addition, the second channel of the COD produces some killer ZZTop quality gain and punch. I've run it through closed and open back 2x12's and is currently powering a 4x10 open back cab. (I"m waiting on my beam blockers for the 4x10.....then...LOOKOUT!)

Wow a COD huh? Are there any COD clip out there that are in a similar vein?

Country tunes in Drop Db. Almost makes you want to play that one.

Wagster - Just curious as to what kind of speakers/cab you ended up going with to get the VX clean tones to the point you are happy with it? Also, for a higher gain tone like in that vid, I would recommend the SL. I think the COD is a cool module capable of getting a lot of different tones, but I've never liked it in a live setting...always feels way too compressed for me.

I'm using a TM 2x12 with Elite 80's. That may change but for right now that's all I have other than my AC30 cab with Blues.

It turns out that what I don't like about the Mod50 clean tones is either the TM 2x12, Elite 80's or both. The Head sounds killer through my AC30 cab with a Blue/G12H combo although it's not enough power for the amp. It sounds like I need either a pair of 65 watt Scumnico's or M75's. Whew now I can take a sigh of relief.

Cleans sound big and beautiful through my stock TM212...almost acoustic like.

I'm glad they are working for you. I'm not having as much luck.

I know this is going to sound crazy but I think a BF Bassman head and a tube screamer were used on that track. I remember my friend who knows those guys telling me that a while back.
