Please tell me how!
Did someone ever tried this? (Extreme - Pornographity)

Oh man...this is a DREAMGUITARSOUND!

Why not?
I´m 95 % there. But i think that sound is more distorted?!

You don´t have to beat me up Peter. :D I don´t have any band mix problems anymore. It´s all perfect.
Now it´s only fine tuning. That´s all.
Perhaps i´ll have to lower the bass a little bit.
Since my visit i have lot´s of highs, just like i wanted. So there is no need to buy something else. I´m married with my Herbert till i die.

But Peter...there is still one question left i would like to ask you. I had to reduce the gain of ch.3 to 10-11 o´clock to get rid of the feedbacks. I reduced the mids too. But i like the channel sound with gain at 1 o`clock. Ch vol is at 10 same as master.
I can run ch2 gain at 3 o´clock with no feedback. Whats the point?(especially when i use the wahwah)
So i think ch3 is the key to my 80´s sound, because it´s more distorted than the second ch.

Or could you make more distortion? 80´s distortion? :inlove:

According to this PDF (page 8) his sound
has not so much distortion. But I'am not sure about those EQ settings (Bass on 12 - definitly too much)

To me his sound was focused on the higher mids (so forget about Herbis Mid Cut feature :D )

I guess you should achive his sound with the Gain amount of Herbis channel 2

And keep your Mouth shut Mr.Diezel - or I reveal the secret drawings I discovered in this VH4 on my bench

Now that is funny :D . There are all sorts of messages inside of Diezel amps. A guy on here the other day with an old Herbie had something scribbled in it. We never did find out what that coded message meant.

Maybe for the tone you are after, try Ch. 2 with max gain and an EQ pedal in the loop with a big frown across the frequency band to get the mid boosted.

Steve

If somebody knwos what i want, it´s Piero! I really like you man!
Midcut for Nuno sounds? I know that. ;)

Gain amount of channel 2? Full gain? :D
I know they doubled the guitars and it took 5 hours for each solo to record.
Yesterday i found a forum where his sound on pornographity was discussed with the producers and mixers and so on...
They even knew which cab they used, which mics and mic pre and the other shitload of stuff.
And i found yesterday this pdf sheet, but i think it´s not Nuno´s real setting. Mids -2? Never!

I think it´s ch3?!

Peter...you know what 80´s sound i mean and you make these amps. Please tell me the secret! :worship:

beside Paul (Gilbert) Nuno was my 90's hero

Check this clip

The sound has not much bottom end, lets say Bass on Herbi = 10 o clock (maybe lower)
Mids I guess = 3 o clock
treble and presence all the way up (considering the fact that the Herbert has a dark voicing )

Gain amount of Channel 2 should be enough

Nunos sound seems to be a little "fizzy" and thin ( but on purpose of course ;) )

These are the ADA settings (posted by Michael Wagener, who recorder the Pornograffitti album and is a legend on its own :) ):
"Here are the real settings:
Overdrive 1 : 4.0 dist
Overdrive 2 : 5.5 dist
Master Gain : 7.5 dist
Bass : 12
Mid : 6
Treb : 6
Pres : 12
Voicing : .tube
FX loop : off

From the ADA it went into the McIntosh 2100 (transistor) poweramp and from there into a vintage Marshall 4x12 cab with the original G12H inside. At that time I normally used Fostex M11RP ribbon mics and Countryman Lavalier mics through a John Hardy M1 to record guitar."

I am much more fond on Extreme III sides to every story guitar sound, which was recorded with a Soldano 50 and Boss turbo overdrive. I am a huge fen of Nuno, and what I am sure for all these years is that his sound is in his hands :) I never heard anybody else sound good through an ADA :)

Oh I know that. And of course I would like to play and sound like Nuno :D , but there is no one who can do that.
But i like this voicing in this sound, thats all.
Reduced mids...thats interesting! I did that with Herbie before i got that idea. It sounds more open with less mids. It cuts more through the band mix. I used to crank the mids up because i had problems with the band mix. Even with the 6550 power tubes and the FL V30 cab. It´s really weird! I cranked mids, reduced gain, but than i tried reducing mids.
The amp is more trebly now and it sounds very good to me. Even a little to trebly(and i´m talking about Herbert!!!)

But it could be a little bit more distorted and raw. A little bit more dirt. But i don´t want to use pedals! No chance. I dont want to start this game.
And now i´m very close to the sound i wanted.

I also know that the sound quality of the ADA is not even close to the Herbert. I know that because i played one a time ago. I liked it, but i thought i can do that with the Herbert easily.

What I was using for a close approximation to Nuno's sound is a Hughes and Kettner Tubeman (was 2nd version of it I think, still use it from time to time) and a Washburn N4 padauk. That guitar, if you ask me has much more influence to his sound (given the hands of Nuno :) ) than whatever amps he is using. It is just plain very bright, punchy and very mid forward instrument. Einstein gets pretty darn close on Channel 2, mode 2, as well :)

Hey Bato,

thanks for these Information:

I am also a fan of little more trebly sounding Herbert and will try this out next time.

So thanks again for your sharing
