I came in possession of this unit. (not the pictured one) it works 100% but i'm struggling to comprehend it in the modern guitar scene....
I understand it pretty well, the "insta-patch" moves whatever module you're on somewhere in the virtual fx-loop called "ext"..

But is this thing supposed to go in an actual amp fx-loop?? A compressor in the loop?
Or is this supposed to go in front of the amp, the analog delay being pre-amp distortion? Is this thing so old (1980 ;) ) that amp distortion wasn't really a thing back then? What about the stereo chorus out? is it for a dual amp?

that said, the tone is absolutely great, the analog delay is a bit short (300ms) but really musical.. the analog chorus is thick, it remind me of the boss ce-1.. the compressor has a huge output and could be use to easily overdrive and amp in cunjunction with the parametric EQ

so, what is that thing and how to use it properly??

Thanks!

Essentially just pedals in another format, so use accordingly. The EXT is a loop to add something else somewhere in the middle of the chain.

i'd put it in the loop for sure. those are cool as hell.

thats where i used it.at first, my main amp fxloop is really hot and saturate the unit if i'm not carefull..

buy yeah, its really something special, i've never heard sonething like it

if i use it in the loop, the chorus output is made with a W/D setup in mind? it goes into a poweramp/fx return?

It was probably made to go into two amp inputs, back in 1982 or whenever these came out stereo rack set-ups basically weren´t happening yet outside of the elite LA session scene and cutting edge amps for regular consumers barely had FX loops. Might even have been made with half a nod to the keyboard crowd, so perhaps feeding the desk was another consideration. Apart from the form factor and the ability to switch the order around it´s a bunch of early 80s 9-series pedals.

As for the chorus, my best guess is that it´s the typical set-up of the era - a mono chorus is on the "Main output" and the "Stereo chorus output" has a phase-flipped signal to get the widening effect when using two amps.
