It made this really strange "RRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTT" kind of sound which got louder- and then it went PPPHHHHTTTT and there was no more sound, although the power remained on. There was a funny smell like something had burned.

Tube or fuse- What do you think?

If it is a fuse, what do I get?

Any good way of checking, maybe without turning the thing back on?

Thanks!

my guess-maybe e aresitor, I had 1 go, and my buddy 2
all happened at low volume playing

I just tried it- It seems like it powers up but there is no sound. Smell is gone.

Do these have internal fuses like the Mod series does? I'd check there.

My wife's bass amp did this twice. Both times it was a power tube run amuck (amuck-amuck) and popped the power tube fuse. Replaced the fuse and the tube, all is fine.

That's what I am guessing, but it might be a resistor also, so I think it has to go into the shop.

Where would I get a fuse? Hardware store? Radio Shack? How do I know what fuse to get? Never replaced one before.

:scared:

Should be in the manual, and yes Radio Shack should serve you well for fuses.

Well, replacing the fuse didn't do it.

The Tourmaster had an extra fuse in there- nice touch!

Took it to a guy in Boston. He thinks it is probably a tube, but it could be other things.

Funny- after I dropped it off I went into a music store and tried a couple of things just for the hell of it. A Blackstar 40 watter and a new Fender Twin.

They did NOT make me want to get rid of my Tourmaster. They were OK, but they just seemed like amps, and they did not strike me as better than the Tourmaster.

Kind of nice that after beating it up for 18 months, I still like it better than other stuff!

If it was my amp, I would contact Egnater. Hope it gets resolved.

Guys I took it to have been around a long time. I couldn't be hassled checking every tube, and if it was anything more than a tube or fuse it would have to go in anyway sssoooooooooooo-

Keep your fingers crossed!

:scared:

I am not an expert! But I have had similar experiences in mine and other amps. In those cases it was a bad tube. My understanding is that fuses most often are the symptom and not the problem. My guess is that you'll replace the tubes and be good to go.

If not, take it to a repair center.

It's already there. I would have just replaced all of them, which might not be necessary. They will at least take the time to check all of them and just replace the bad one, which I couldn't be bothered with. I did fire it up and all the tubes lit, but I guess it can still be a bad tube. If they do a good job, it's always helpful to know a good repair place.

In the meantime my nice acoustics and my little Line 6 modeler are gettin' a workout! Gotta play Thursday night- Gotta figure out if it is gonna be acoustic or modeler. what would you guys do?

:scared:

My guess is that a power tube failed and took out the screen resistor.

Good luck!

That's what I think too- And if it is something like that, I could have made all of the effort to check tubes and then have to take it in anyway, so fuck it. I just took it in.

It's still in the shop- I am still waiting.

It's probably bad tubes. When I powered it up all the tubes lit up, but the guy said they could still be bad. Maybe a fuse, maybe even transformer or resistor.

Be another week or so. In the meantime I am thoroughly enjoying my Herringbone D 28, which does not get enough attention!

 ;) :scared: :D

Close. Power tube went, blew out the fuse, burned some of the fuse holders and a few other things.

Rockin' now, though!
