ie4 manual errors and general help.

My Rocktron-era ie4 manual claims two EL84's and four 12AX7's (page 10)! The SEVEN 12AX7 tubes are probably the originals (Ruby-branded). Other than the manual's obvious mis-print about the number and type of tubes, is the odd claim that changing the tubes must be performed by the manufacturer at risk of warranty invalidation. I am trying to both sweeten and clean up channel one. It distorts a bit too soon for me (around 9:00 it starts to lose it's sparkle). Channel 4 is as girthy as everyone claims, but I would like to tighten up the bottom. Would I benifit with maybe some Tung-Sol re-issues in all 7 sockets? Or would a less-gainey tube in socket one and channel one, with a higher gain tube in channel four's socket help. And which (socket) is which? I think this is a very much a newer unit (brushed-aluminum with blue "swoosh"). Lots of questions. I have been playing for over 30 years but I'm not as much a gear-head as I should be.
have scoured these sites for a schematic and/or tips and would be sincerely appreciative of all information on these topics.

That's funny....eight years after they cease production you find the misprint! I think it was just a matter of liability that they put that stuff about having a service center change your tubes. Of course you can change your own tubes with the following disclaimer.
"Removing the lid will expose you to potentially lethal voltages. Use extreme caution (when changing tubes) to not touch any circuit components inside. Capacitors can store a charge for long periods of time even after the power is turned off. OK....so now have fun experimenting with tubes."
There is a schematic at http://www.schematicheaven.com
