Hey megaman , I know what it was like not having Dave and Marty's CAE/VHT countdown gear.

Life is defintely better having the CTE gear. (but, mine was used/owned by Steve Stevens on the Vince Neil album)

Do whatever it takes to get it.

It's doing my head in a bit. These and Duesentriebs are the only ones I seriously feel like I need. I'm just not heavily vibed up by any other preamp I know of.

I've got a thing that it's not worth me buying an amp from the States even with the dollar situation. These things are pushing me close to the edge though. I dunno, I'm doing the math and weighing it up.

Are either of these likely to have coatings on the circuits that make them hard to work on?

I'm not very often struck with gas but I am actually gassing hard right now. I just found some "enthusiast" schematics in this thread: http://www.firebottle.com/fireforum/ff. ... 280mECoh7N

I'm thinking maybe build a clone. The parts for a preamp aren't very expensive; transformer & case prolly cost the most. If it turns out to be a POS then it should just be a case of playing around the circuit/wiring/layout until I get to something good.

Hmmm...

I took your word for it and bought the second one.
Never heard one in person though, hope you're right.
Time to start saving for a VHT power amp, I guess.

Thanks
Doug

Holy Shit, that's badass.

I hope you're not too disappointed.

What if I get impatient and just get a used Marshall 9200?
Would it be truly horrible compared to the VHT?
I have no real power amp experience aside from a Peavey Classic 50/50 I used with an H&K Access back in the day.

Nice score mate. I totally missed the best offer option? The other ones gone now.

I'm definitely attempting a build of my own. I've sourced some tasty components and got the schematics for the Bognor fish & triple giant , the Soldano X88R and a couple of others now as well. :)

Does anyone know if there are any gutshots of the CAE3+ about?

Interestingly enough, The CAE preamp sounds just as good through the fx return of my egnater head as it does through the vht 2150.

since the egnater is like a marshall, I'll bet a 9200 would be killer.

I used to have a 9100, and I loved it.

Cool, thanks for the info.
I've also got a Digitech GSP1101 on the way.
I'll probably be looking for more help when I'm, trying to hook all this crap up.
