The two best sounds in the amp are the blue channel boosted and blue channel plexi. No way to footswitch between them.
I want that amp Bogner!

Are you perceiving a difference in assigning the Plexi mode to red vs. to the blue channel? If you are noticing a difference then perhaps the presence assignment switch is set to differ between blue and red or the brightness switches are set differently.

Yes for some reason w all the xtc's I've had, 3 or 4, plexi sounds much better in the blue than red.

Huh....There is nothing at all in any way wrong with my XTC 20th! ...it's the Swiss army knife of amps, every tone is stellar and useful. I do get your point though...just sayin, I've had a lot of great amps and its still champion

I never noticed a difference in the plexi modes. I will have to investigate that. Stay tuned.

They most definitely sound different because the Red channel is a different circuit than the Blue. So, theoretically using Plexi mode with either channel is going to sound slightly different. Plexi mode just takes V2 out of the circuit and does not allow the Structure option.

I love the Red channel on my 2001 Ecstasy. REMEMBER.....keep the preamp gains down below 11 o'clock and you will have a puncher tone!!

I tried both today and couldn't tell a difference but the volume was pretty low. Need to try again at louder volumes.

Only way to play an XTC in my opinion :D

Ok. I can tell a difference at volume. Blue Plexi is better. Who knew?

Yep, you sure did.

I used to play the Red Plexi mode and solo in Blue. Now I play Blue Plexi and solo in unboosted red. Good stuff. Love this amp.

A= .68uF/820
B= 2.2uF/2.3k (if structure is on H)
C= 10k (post 2004 10k w/ 10k/.22uF in series)
D= 1k

Blue channel = A, B, D
Red channel = A, B, C, D
Blue Plexi = A, D
Red Plexi = A, D

Circuit wise, no difference between the two plexi modes.

That's what I thought. So what are people perceiving? I tried and couldn't tell a difference.

I really don't know. Some will say the red plexi is better. Signal path is exactly the same between both of them, one uses a blue LED indicator and the other uses the red LED indicator. Maybe the blue LED sounds better even though its not part of the signal chain lol ;)

There you go - same signal path. Blue being brighter than red may explain why some people prefer the Blue Plexi mode. ;)

Helios is a little different animal and leans heavily toward the marshall camp. The entire line of Marshalls can be found in the Helios.......amazing amp if you mate it up with a good, well broken in cab other wise it can be bright. If you filtered out the high end with a bigger cap on the first stage and replaced the eq pots for Audio taper and changed to presence to a 25k audio pot it would be sound closer to the XTC.

I'm working on building a Modded marshall with a Plexi channel and the blue channel with boost.

Just tested plexi on blue and red (on a Classic) and there really is something special about the blue. It has a warmth or some sort of characteristic that the red doesn't have.
