I'm getting a bit confused when I play my SL2X...

So I tweaked the SL2X quite a bit last band rehearsal, and I noticed that it doesn't have very much "sustain" but I get a lot of feedback after the tone rings out. Is it supposed to be like this or is it time to throw in a couple of new tubes?

I really like the tone spectra of this module but I'm not really into the gain characteristics. I was thinking that it might be so that channel A is supposed to have a typical 2 gain stage kind of feel to it and channel B more of a 3 gain stage feel, or am I just mixing things up inside my head now..?

Seems like I tend to find my sound I'm looking for in 4 gain stage amps rather than 2 and 3 stage amps.

What are common examples of 4 gain-stage amps?

Fryette (VHT) Deliverance and Orange Rockerverb are two good examples.

How do you know an amp has four gain stages? I had a VHT UL but it was too loud to be practical.

Are any of the Egnater amps/modules 4 gain stages?

I don't notice a lack of sustain with the SL2X over the stock SL2, nor any feedback issues.

OK, thanks for the input. Might be a bad tube in my SL2X then.

I find this interesting. Aside from the EG5, my SL2X sustains more than my other high gain modules. I would have to think you have a bad tube in there. Might want to check in the input driver tube on the amp as well. They can have a profound effect on your overall drive and sustain.

sounds like a bad 12AX7/....I have a SL+ and it sustains really well.....the SL2X has even more gain/sustain

Are you guys rehearsing in a small room? I find that happens to me when I am in tight quarters. Not just with Egnater stuff - with most amps. Loudness + Small room = less sustain/more feedback in my experience.

I could get extremely similar tones from an EG5, Mr Scary (modded or not) and a DF Modded eRect....... :D

Yes, we've actually moved from a big studio live room to a small office space (about 20 square meters) and the sound is quite awful compared to our old location.

I haven't been in our rehearsing room since my last post, so I haven't tried new tubes yet...
