Holy shit Jeff...the MHG is just what I wanted. I popped this in and set everything to noon except the gain which I put around 2 and it just kills. I could solo for days on this tone.

For those interested, though I have the EG5, the problem is that when I have EG5 dialed in for a great ryhthm tone it is a little too bright and when I set it for a smooth lead tone it is not quite bright enough for heavy rhythms. The MHG is perfect. If the EG5 reminds me a little of the SLO100, the MHG reminds me a little of the Bogner Ecstacy 101B Red channel. It's got that squishy feel to the notes and the singing violin, type tone. Now I have the best of both worlds.

Ok...back to shredding...

I agree that this assessment is right on the money in terms of response, definition, and tone. I thought exactly the same thing. Granted I have limited experience with playing an XTC on only a number of occasions (I own an SLO) but from what Ive heard, the XTC cuts through a mix pretty well and I seem to recall that being the case. However, I definitely had issues with that with the MHG, and thats next to a Bogner Shiva even. YMMV. Just something to be mindful of since you want to use MHG more for leads and thats where you especially want the cut. The EG5 will slice your goddamn head off.

More Egnater happiness ... it's a beautiful thing ain't it?

Glad you like the MHG. I had the MHG but sent it back to be upgraded to the EG5 because I can't hear myself jamming with people when running the MHG. It just wouldn't cut.

I may have to get a mid boost or something to give me the lead I want when using the EG5.

Biggest problem is the guys I jam with use Marshalls and the MHG always got swallowed up! I am hoping the EG5 is the modern high gain modeule for me. Maybe the Super COD or an EG3/4 or SL2 will solve my problems.

I loved the MHG on its own but not with another guitarist. It worked fine when I jammed alone and with my old band - that guys used a Randall M4 with various modules. PLaying in the same room with a stock Marshall I was lost with the MHG.

I wish they had a high gain module where one channel excelled at rhythm and the other at lead without having to use a pedal to get what you want.

Keep in ind that I tend to favor VERY different tones for rhythm and leads. I prefer a very smooth, almost dark lead tone but I like a brighter rhythm tone. The A and B channels of EG5 are a little different from each but not enough for me to use one channel for rhythm and one for leads.

bstaley, that is what I like.....although i like my rhtyhm thick, midrangy and chunky...almost dark - so maybe we ARE different...LOL! I like my leads thick and smooth, singing. I know in the end, I'll be using a boost, or something to get what I want with the amp.

I like squishy, juicy, midrange heavy tones but I had trouble being heard with the MHG.

Jason, what are the settings you mentioned from the other thread?

Gotta run..
