I'm pretty sure I'm ready for a different amp

The Marshall Vintage Modern is a killer amp. It does some things like 80's metal(boosted) and classic rock extremely well. I just miss a more aggressive amp. Typically I use a very high gain amp. Been through a ton. This year I used the JVM and VM. Well I'm pretty sure I'm ready to move on from Marshall. It's a bummer that it isn't doing it for me anymore. Cool amp. But since I've owned so many other high gainer I don't know If I should go back to a favorite like the Mesa Mk IV or an Engl PB, or try something entirely new. Hmmmmm

Blackmore

I'd be willing to try one. Let me know if you see any for sale.

Based on your desire for an aggressive, non-Marshally amp. I would not recommend the Blackmore. Even though I love that amp..........it is in the Marshall vein for high gain. And I doubt it will have the aggressiveness you want. It is miles apart from the Powerball. Its great for classic rock/hard rock/80's metal/thrash/power metal. But IMO, it doesn't do the aggressive modern stuff that well at all. Just my 2 cents.

I still stand by my last statement. Get yourself a Mesa Boogie Quad preamp and use it through the Marshalls power section. You will have a MKIIc+ and MKIII sound plus a marshall. When you want your liquidy gain aggressive lead stuff, play the Boogie and when that vibe isn't doing it for you then play the Marshall. We have been telling you this for years now that you are a prime candidate for mutliple amps and getting the quad should end your gas and its easily obtainable if you start saving !!!!! This is a great solution for you that wont break the bank!!

I have a Quad and a Plexi power section.

the CAE sounds better with the marshally power amp.

Thats just a preferance thing. I prefer the Boogie and I wouldn't give you a buck o five for the CAE :hys:. The CAE's have way to many lower mids for my taste and since I know that Jim likes the boogie tone, methinks that he would like the Quad much better then the CAE. Plus its a lot cheaper IMHO.

I think you described a pretty decent amp for my needs. Thing is DerekB's clips of the Blackmore sound plenty modern to me.

have you had a jsx yet?

Played through the JSX a good couple of times. Yes I think it's a nice amp. But I'm thinking Engl or Mk IV.

If you didnt like the feel of the JVM, you won't like the Engl.

I had a Powerball. Played the Savage 120. Is it different from those? The JVM didn't remind me at all of either of those two amps. Is the Blackmore that different?

I'm not saying it won't get BRUTAL. But if thats what you want, I would get the Fireball or Powerball. They both have a huge low end and just sound "bigger". The Blackmore is bright and really heavy in the mids. If you go the Blackmore route, I would advise staying away from V30's. The Vintage 60's that come in Engl standard cabs sound great..... as do Greenbacks.

I say try something entirely new. I mean, why not? If you later on need to go back to something that you know you like, like the Mark IV or VM, they are plentiful.

Yeah but what? I don't want to get to expensive. I do think an Engl through the greenbacks might be sweet.
