that are on youtube, am I mostly hearing Mark's amps through CL80's and H30's? I think I read that that's what he puts in the cabs as his standard x-pattern speaker choice. I really like all the clips and I'm wondering how much of the tone is the speakers. And yes I realize that most of the tone is in his amp design, just wondering about those speakers.

edit: This guy described what I'm hearing perfectly in this mf review of the CL80. He said
"you'll get that squonky, purry, edge that just sounds so mean!"

Squonky and purry edge is exactly what I'm talking about. Are those pretty accurate characteristics of classic lead 80's in anyone's experience? Thanks. :)

Well,

Mark prefers all H30's, some of what you heard may be that. A Lot of people including Nick like the X-Pattern with 80's and 30's. I have Marks personal cab with all CL80's
And that is what I love... Mark felt it was too dark for him.. But that's what I love 80's are dark and smooth with a tight punchy bottom end... I like a warm rich sound, so
it's the only speaker for me... except for my Vintage Marshall, which seems to click with Vintage 30's. It's a very warm head, so the upper midrange spike does not seem to
be prevalent.

I prefer the mix of the two... especially at stage volumes, the 80's smooth out the sound a bit , and really make it project, plus they handle the massive bottom end better at louder volumes, sometimes you get a little cone break up with the 30's where as the 80's handle it no sweat...

I generally like green backs or H30's of some sort ... usually lower wattage speakers agree with me better , they respond and they are fast... but with the ccv @ stage volume to me a mix with 80's really evens it out, or even a cab with just 80's is really cool to... depends on you, the guitar, pickups / guitar, room, settings, and tone your after to... its subjective for sure...

Hey is it monday yet? :D

I really need to try the H30's and 80's with my CCV. For now though, I am really digging the Scumback M75's 65 Watt....

Well this is what I'm thinking about trying-an M75 with a CL80 in a Recto 212 or a Marshall 412 with 2 80's/2 M75's in an x-pattern.
This is what drives me nuts about speakers. The perfect set of speakers could be out there just waiting, and I may never find them or "my tone" because I can't afford to try them all. Unless I buy and flip like crazy til I find gold.
Anyone think the M75/CL80 combo would work well? I only have the Recto now, but next year I plan on buying a modded Marshall type amp(Marsha, Cameron, Diezel) and that's the sound I want my speakers to compliment. I already have a boogie cab with v30's for the rec.

Really looking forward to checking out those Cameron cabs in the future. Does anyone with a CCV know if its worth the money to get a matching cab?

It is a really well made cab, I know Mark worked a long time on it, and designed it specifically to work with the CCV/CCM... I tried everything from a Mills to a Marshall... And I definately think
my CCV sounds best with the matching cab.
