info on preamp tubes for the herbert

Guys,

Im currantly using 6550 tubes in the poweramp. What preamp tubes should i get to match well? I dont have the time and money to compare now. I dont need higain tubes, the amp allready delivers enough.

Peter, what would you recommend? I have a hiss(posted a little while ago), you told me that its a preamp tube, sorry i dont have the time now a days, so i forget all the time to order tubes.

the tone seems to have gone sterrile/lifeless.

Hey Peter....Thanks for the head's up for the tubes...Will Magic Parts sell direct or are they just the US distributor...Diezel fanatics get a special direct deal? That woule be sweet but I am thinking unlikely...Buying tubes for the family...VH4, Herbert, and Einstein...

Peter, im in Holland. I dont mind buying in the USA, the dollar is still low at the moment but are there any eu shops i could look at.

Also Peter, are there any parts we should clean? and how? and with what? a dirty amp will break down at some point.

I usually ask P. Stapffer the questions, but hey thats what the board is for. And i dont want to bother him with these questions.

I'm happy with Penta Labs, but you need to buy a few for a good sounding one at V1 & V2. They are a bit noisy though. dougstube sells them.

it depends on the microphonic quality.
If You hear no "click" by switching the
channels it´s a good one.

I think Doug and Tom get´s the same
tube from Shuguang/China.

Doug tubes didnt have the ac5 HG so i got the ac7, the company you told me about didnt reply to me, so i had no choice.

Ive played the herb. for 8 hours this weekend, even when the tone wasnt 100% i enjoyed playing the amp It also was about time i got good settings for channel 3, it took me a while but WOW creamy screaming leads whyle channel 2 just crushes in its rhytmic way.

I think I can safely say your presumption is correct - HG+ in V1 & 2. Also, I'd be curious to know your settings on Ch3 if you don't mind. I'm still playing around with mine and while I've found several that are very nice, I'm still in the tinkering mode

These are my settings on channel 3 (including mid-cut) using a UV777 with stock pickups. The settings worked for me last weekend on bedroom volume with my Engl v30 cab and a rocktron expression in the loop.

Satuday when rehearsing i only used channel 1 and 2. The settings differ all the time due to the crap cabs they have there.
