Saw this on Craigslist this morning. Seems like it is a good price if it is a made in America Kramer. I've been looking for a Fender style single coil guitar for cheap to hang on the wall and pull down often for quick practice sessions. What do you guys think? good deal? Does anyone have any info on this model? Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I think this is a KS-400 model from the 80's. Anybody own one of these?

Not made in America. But for $100 if it plays decent... I'd offer $50 and settle on 75

I think those had a plywood body. If you can score it for under $100, and it plays decently, they're not bad for knocking around. I had one of the plywood Strikers, it actually didn't sound too bad through a decent amp. I bought it dirt cheap just to harvest the hardware, but ended up keeping it as a 'guest player' guitar for a while. :D

I wouldn't waste my time if you have any other guitars. I had something like that from Kramer and it was a waste. I don't know what a knock around guitar is. I don't have them. If you mean an inexpensive guitar that you don't want to worry about, I would save the money and look for cheap used parts guitars on CL or Ebay...i.e. Warmoth or such...or parts and build your own. I use high quality parts guitars that I manage to find for anywhere to $300-$500 or put together from parts over time from the $50-$75 that I manage to save from not buying stuff like this (when I am not buying production guitars). Many deals can be had. I eventually have enough to put together various parts guitars that are on par with many custom shop guitars...at least in parts. One of my favorites is a Strat made from an old ESP NAMM body that I got for $100 on CL. It would cost somewhere around $500-600 from Warmoth just for the body. Keep in mind that you will eventually want to replace everything on the Kramer...and then you will be left with a plywood body anyway...and an subpar neck.

I agree, I don't think I'm going to waste my time. I was hoping this was one of the good American made Kramers at a steal of a price. Definately don't want it if its made in Indonesia and has a plywood body. I also read that the tuners are a piece. Thanks again for all the input.

any of the 80's focus series guitars, 1000,2000,3000,6000 are good guitars for the money, pretty reasonable the 1000's fetch the most money, but they are all really good guitars,

FWIW that neck is the same as the 'American' neck. Only difference is the 'American' necks had the 'American' logo on them. Best of all they were made in Japan by ESP. The cheap models like that were not cut for a Floyd nut though.

I am pretty sure that is not remotely the same as an American neck. American necks were made by ESP. This is a lower cost neck, possibly a striker. It is definitely an overseas neck...based on the lettering. The thing is that body looks too strat shaped to be a Kramer. It could be a pick though. In either case, unless you got a Focus it isn't really worth it, and that isn't a Focus. Even still, the Kramer market is pretty bad and you could get really decent Kramer's for very fair prices these days.

This guitar looks like one of these...

If it is, it is the cheapest of all musicyo Kramers, and not really a kramer, thus explaining the body shape.

Your right, KS 400 had its own crappy neck. Striker necks have the truss rod adjustment at the heel.
