Installed some 6L6 on my Einstein

I had two pairs of 6L6 tubes that came in my Vh4, I swapped those for some KT77 so the 6L6s were laying around and the curiosity got me. Put two of those on my Einstein.

wow I really like the way the amp sounds. I can tell the overdriven tones sound a little bit more "harsh"... but I can tame it turning the presence down a position or two. The cleans sound clearer and fuller..... I think I'll keep these tubes in there for a while.....

I didn't loose any agression though.... which I like and I must say channel 1 mode 2 (texas) seem to be the most improved tone. :rock:

anyone running 6L6 in an Einstein?

yeah, it's weird because I've read most of you guys don't like 6L6 in Diezels.... and I could tell the Vh4 wan't up to it's full potential with the 6L6 it came with, but I was a little curious and installed those in the Einstein and man..... that clean channel/texas mode sounds incredible!

I guess I'm a 6L6 guy when it comes to Cleans.

oh yeah, I wouldn't change a thing on that amp! it's got mojo for ages!! :rock: :rock: :rock:
 
Did you re-bias for the 6L6's? They generally run a little cooler (about 20%) than the 34's for the same plate voltage. To really get them smoking, increase the bias up to 40-45 or 80-90 for the pair.

I've gone back to 6L6's in the VH4 and I like them. :thumbsup: Still thinking of giving KT66's a try as well, which are supposedly in the same family of sound as 6L6s.

Really? I rebiased the amp at 65 (the pair) since it's how Diezel recommends in the Tech corner @ diezelamplification.com


should I go higher? :confused:
