I think I need to replace the nut on an Epi that I have. The current nut seems to be cut a bit shallow. I was going to use one of those Graftech nuts from Stewmac with precut slots. Are they hard to replace for someone that has never done it before?

It's very easy to do. However, don't assume because it's precut that it'll work for your application.

Oh - I thought this was a reproductive health surgery thread.

If you have never done this it can be difficult. The nut will need to be cut and shaped. If you plan on doing this often, then it will be worth while to buy the necessary tools. If not, you're probably better off getting a good repair shop to do it.

You could just put a thin shim under it to raise the whole nut....or sand a bit off the bottom to lower it...I'm not sure what you mean by cut shallow.

Easiest way to make nut files is to get a string, hot glue it to the edge of popsicle sticks and use that. Dan Erlewine-style.

Are you trying to fix a nut that was cut too deep?

Yes. The plastic nut on there now has worn over time.
