Interesting cab question RL new vs old. speaker swap

So i have a diezel RL with the custom eminence speakers and lately ive thought about swapping out the speakers for the hempcones instead of buying the new cab for a ballsload of money. Do you think it will significantly improve the sound, or has anyone tried this?

.. i know it wont be the same as the new one but mayyyyyybe close..?
 
I can only speak from experience - I had an older model RL Diezel 4x12 with a slight slant to the face, and it was loaded with G12H30 70th Anniversary Edition cones, and man, that thing sang like NO body's business... Still pissed I sold it. So will speakers make a difference, hell yeah they'll make a difference. If I might be so bold as to make a recommendation, pending on the music you play, which I ought to ask first and foremost, tinker with the idea of X patterning some V30's and some G12T75's in there... Just for shits and giggles. Or go with V30's and G12K's, or hempcones, or whatever.

What head are you running out of the ones listed - both the Einy and the Herbster??

Hey Rob,

what´s Your favourite style of music ?

Maybe the V30´s will fit better.
 
I play rock guitar but also rock/blues. I like a loose/compressed feel. REALLY warm. Not at all ever been a fan of V30's. REally love the CL-80's i have in my bogner 1X12.
Im gonna be playing my herbert through these. my einstein is paired with the bogner.
What do you think? Hempcones or CL-80's..?

Yo Braddah,

Sorry for the delay in seeing this thread... I'm currently running my VH4S through the new FL 4x12 loaded with G12K100's - the deets on this match up are: tight, sterile, neutral, f*ckin' potent and loud, and very, very articulate with amazing sensitivity up in the SPL registries. The cab just truly POUNDS and doesn't lose its scope from low volume to ear bleeding. Crisp. Prefect match for the VH4S. The older model (cab mentioned above) was warmer, browner, and more...hmmmm....more brown if that makes any sense (I ran out of adjectives man!). The new FL G12K cab is powerful and full of neutral tone thrust that is perfect for knowing your EQ and different ax's. My Uberschall TJ goes through a new UberKab - 4x12 FL with X patterned G12T75 and V30's. It sounded alright with the V, but they just sounded better with their respective heads. I had to mix 'em up to see how they were with each other, and the V definitely works with my G12K's and the Uber works REAL well with the X patterned GT/V30's.

I have one of the US made Diezel 2x12 FL. I pulled the Diezel Eminence speakers in favour of some Eminence Lynch Super V112s. Man....did it ever change the sound of that cab to something extraordinary! Clarity, punch and perfect tone translation from my Einstein.

if you ever fancy an adventure you can come play my cabs. I have both the new FL G12K cab & the RL Hempcone. and i still have my old FL cab too. The old cabs are great...but IMHO no comparison to the new ones. Ive played them side by side...major difference!! :thumbsup:
 
Yes, but arent the speakers at least 75% of the tone?
Im really thinking financially it would be a better decision... but if its really THAT much of a difference i may go in another direction.

I may try these lynch speakers you speak of.

How about 2 hempcones and 2 lynch speakers or CL80's in x configuration..?
 
Guess the best thing to do is try... I don't know what the "tone in your head" sounds like, but I can tell ya this - a lot of great artists from the past didn't have NEARLY the number of options and accessories that we musicians have today, and they ALL got their tone from their hands, style and guitars... So go one route - use it - abuse it - and make it yours.

There is a big chance that You will like the hemp cones.
 
hempcones for the Herbie for rock!! your always welcome in PA to test mine out. anything for a fellow Diezel-head!!! :D
 
Wish you were just a little closer to me, but i think i may try the hempcones. Which ones are they? I see different ones on ebay etc. Ceramic hempcones (green color)?
