I've noticed that they really open up with 470 ohm screen resistors with about 6-7K of load from the primary on two tubes, 3-3K5 on four at the usual 450 or so B+. Screens do glow a bit, but damn, the tone!
Most EL34 circuits (and some modern 6L6 circuits like Rectifiers) get 1K resistors which produce a firmer sound and safer operation at the expense of gain and tone.
Just wanted to share this with you guise as we're all in this tone thing together.
