Interesting read: Gain stages in preamps, etc.

Nothing like a good cup of coffee, and an online article about gain stages and clipping diodes to help you thru an afternoon slump at work.

;)

I read this about 3-4 years ago. It's definitely a good read!

My Q is:

If the modules only have 2 tubes in them, how does Egnater get so much gain out of the EG5, SL2, etc.

Is 1/2 of the V2 12AX7 not used, and then it IS used in some of the higher gain modules? I'm assuming that Eggy doesn't use clipping diodes like Marshall...

I don't think they use clipping diodes :bleh:

Bruce said once that building a good amp isn't rocket science, its just putting together all those little parts to make a circuit. He just plain knows how to design a great sounding preamp circuit.

Does anyone know exactly what V2 does in the modules?

Tried doing a search, but it didn't work because "V2" isn't long enough
