Hell of a long thread, and still being posted to after a year - even some posts from Bruce in there - but some really good info and a cheap and simple solution to the old problem of the difference in tone between being on-axis and off-axis to your cabs. You know - you think your tone is great, meanwhile the 10 people in the audience in front of your amp have their ears bleeding. I found this while searching for Tone Bras and Weber's Beam Blockers. This is an almost opposite approach, but is an easy and cheap DIY and would appear to work well. Going to give it a try.

That guy seems like a condescending dildo.

He treats Bruce, an amp genius/guru/veteran/legend like he's an idiot

It sounds muffled like there's a giant foam donut in front of the speaker

Now I can't mic anywhere on the cone.

That whole thread pissed me the hell off.

Some of his posts seem a bit condescending, true. But he does seem to know what he is talking about. Some people just can't communicate very well, especially on forums. I think it's worth a try for $10 worth of foam and 30 minutes of time.

Read all that dude's responses as if you are listening to the voice of the Architect from The Matrix say it. Much more entertaining.

I have dome this with good results though not for micing puposes. the reduced frequencies do need to be compensated for, but a less directional speaker was the result.

yes that guy behaves like a cretin in that thread but his science is on the money...

FWIW, I use the Weber Beamblockers, and they work great...They don't mess with your speakers frequencies either

I've had major direction/beaming issues gigging with my Mod 50 / TM212, so I decided to give this a shot. Just got done with the install and played through it for a few minutes. The beam is definitely tamed, but I'm not sure about the overall sound yet. I need to play with the EQ some more and try it out in a band setting to decide if it's a keeper.

I have done it .... works like advertised (this is not effected in any way by your perception of Jay).

.... I have tried many other techniques. I feel this works better than any of them. Including all mentioned above. Much better. Easy one of the best things I have done to control my live sound.

You really need to relax with your constant Egnater brown-nosing. You make it so obvious like a teenage groupie. Anyway, just because Bruce is a true guru when it comes to AMPLIFIERS, does not mean he completely understands speaker phase & directivity. This is where Jay becomes the true guru.

As far as sounding muffled and not being able to mic your cabinet, when you get the point of understanding phase and directivity, you'll be able to discern what you heard. Jay completely explains what is happening, in great detail, and you obviously did not thoroughly read the post, and/or grasp the very basic science & physics behind it. You are NOT hearing a muffling of high-end. What you are hearing is a redirection of high-end. At a number of points, Jay flat out says you may have to increase your mid & treble a bit, but NOT because the foam is muffling them, but rather because the foam, the shape, and the size of the hole are more evenly spreading them throughout the room.

There is companies out there that manipulate phase & directivity on a grand scale, everyday. Companies such as EAW, Nexo, and D&B. I challenge you to give any one of their engineers a call. You will quickly see that know of Jay, and also know that he's the only guy so far to figure this out, properly.

Hmm, I still don't like that speaker expert, and now, I have a problem with you. Sweet.

Interesting. Now for those of us that aren't drunk, stoned, or just mindless, please explain how that relates, or matters?

Actually, nevermind.. After reading a few of your 4800+ posts, it's not worth arguing over. ;)

By the way, I just looked through my own posts, and they are quite informative and intelligent.

K, thx, bye.

Who's to say that's not what I meant? Whatever the case, it's not worth arguing over. I'd much rather spend the time playing!
