First, a thank You for allowing me on the board. I'm a new member as of earlier today. My name's Joe, and I'm from southern NJ(outside ac). Mostly into hard rock/metal but I try to mix things up. I apologize if this has been posted before. I just got a renegade(swapped out from a Randall rm100lb) and I'm looking for a starting point for settings. I know everyone's different but thinking some of you guys may have some cool tones that I can start with. Thanks!!! Joe

Joe - I just got a used Renegade in great condition the other day. I owned one previously when they first came out (had to sell it), so I'm getting re-acquainted.

Anyway, I think it's a great rock / hard rock amp, but probably not a great metal amp if you're into those scooped super high gain tones (like a 5150 or Mesa DR). I find that it fits better in the Fendery / Marshall camp.

My first suggestion is to read the manual. I think it has a lot of good ideas and fairly accurate descriptions about how the deep/bright switches impact the tone versus the tone knobs, how presence and density work (they are purely additive), and what to expect from the 18/65 switch. I don't know what amps you've owned in the past, but dialing in on these is a little different -- but it is easy to find great sounds. Just listen and experiment.

Yes, I agree. Rock and Hard Rock, but not much Metal there.

Generally, I turn the clean side to 6l6 and the lead side to El34's. Cleans on 60 watts. Leads on 18 watts.

But all of this is up for negotiation, and depends on my mood...

I appreciate the responses and suggestions. Thank You!!!!! Playing wise I'm more of a rock guy, so that works. I love the sound of the amp so far for sure. I'm gonna try to dl a manual and see what it says. Again, Thank You!!!!!

I think the manual is available on the website. I relied on it pretty heavily until I got to know the amp.

I was able to download it earlier. Got it dialed in and man, I love it!!! Thank Yoy guys for posting. Much appreciated!! JoeV

What cab/speakers you're running it through makes a big difference in the tone your looking for too. For Lynch tones, run the Renegade through some celestion greenbacks and add a little boost up front of the amp for some more saturation and you'll be in Lynch territory.

Thanks Axis!! I'm just using a cheap Marshall cab. I've got a pretty versatile tone going now, but would love to swap out to greenbacks, or his Emminence, I think they were called super vees. Eventually I'll put some pedals in front of the amp, but totally stoked with the tone from the amp dry
