Is anyone here a Session Musician?

I just want to hear from Pro Session Musicians, regarding how things normally work when you are hired to perform on pre written songs in the studio.

Specifically do you usually have to sign work for hire release forms, or is this not the normal in today's world?

Thanks for any info.

Oh, you mean "professional".

Nevermind.

I was going to say cash money, but if there's paperwork, I'm out.

My 2nd guitarist does that kind of work around the Austin area. No contracts, just cash.

If you were working in a Nashville major label tied studio or something like that you would be required to join the musician's union, which then has minimum scale set for pay. I'm not sure how contracts work in that environment though but I'm fairly certain it would be written. I tried to join when I lived there but they told me unless I was recording for a major label I was wasting money. At least they were honest, lol.
