Is Diezel Einstein right for me?

Diezel Einstein users, please help!

I've been offered a trade of a Diezel Einstein combo (50w, V30) for my Mesa Roadking head, and I'm thinking it's the right amp for me.

I'm looking for:

Excellent clean (from pristine to warm and furry)
Kick ass rhythm (EL34 based, chunky, full, uncompressed, rock/metal)
Great lead (same as 2 but "more everything")

Seems like the Einstein can do this and does it very well. It appeals as, compared with the VH4 and Herbert, it's known for being more organic and having a bit more of a vintage vibe, while still offering modern high gain amounts of drive.

Reason for getting rid of the Roadking is its lack of cut through in the mix and several of the sounds not really being what I want or need.

Can you guys please let me know if the Einstein will deliver the above, and what the pros and cons of the amp are? How does it compare with a VH-4?

Cheers!

Have a listen to my band to hear our sound (it's an AC30 on one song and a single recto on the other but you'll get the idea of what we're going for).

"Bullet for your gun" is more accurately what we do than Everywhere.

There are (obviously) some differences between a Roadking and an Einstein. Anyway, I own a 100w head. Needless to say I love it.

IMO, the cleans are good; not excellent, the crunch (Texas mode) is excellent and ch2 (lead) is excellent. Texas and Lead is what I use and why I bought this amp. Next to this, you must consider that Einstein is basically a 2 channel amp. Channel 1 has 3 modes, but must be switched manually unless you get it modded (which is easily done, by the way).

Basically: if you need an excellent 2 channel amp, Einstein is the way to go. Coming from a Roadking and judging by what you're looking for in your post, I think I would consider a Herbert.

Great songs man! As for 'Bullet for your gun', I think the Einstein would probably be the best choice for that kinda tone, but from personal taste I think that song would also work with a heavier tone that the herbert could deliver. (For example the bit at 3:00 could be so much heavier/tastier with a herby  )
All the best and good luck with the band

Cool thanks man. The Einstein is what is up for trade, so I guess I was looking for confirmation that I'm doing the right thing, and it sounds like I probably am. The combo really appeals too - I'll run it with a mesa recto 2x12 for big gigs or on its own for small stuff.

Trust me you wont need that 2x12. The Einstein is one of the most massive sounding combo's iv come across.

Get the Einy. And report back once you fire it up in front of your bandmates :D

+1 Eini will do the trick. Its massive for a combo. Sometimes its hard to believe it only the small cube making this noise
I agree, Cleans are good, but Texas and Mega and Channel 2 are just amazing. It can definitely deliver the sound you are asking for. I did the mod and it works well. I use the nova system to balance any volume issues. So it can be a 2+2 channel amp :D

I'm a little concerned that the Diezel will lack the tightness I need for palm muting - we're not a metal band but we use palm muting in a lot of our stuff so it's important it's tight and vicious for those parts. Should I be worried about this?

I wouldn't bee, I just played a mesa Triple rec a few weeks ago an early 90's one and that thing was a LOT looser on the low end than my Diezel... honestly people claim Diezel's aren't tight enough for metal, I've heard this bullshit quite a few times and it's a flat out lie. If you need a super tight metal tone rather than hard rock you just turn down the damn depth and bass it's got so much ass end it's absurd.

Here's a lower volume vid of my Einstein with a Les Paul tuned down a half step, so keep in mind Lesters by scale aren't as tight as a fender plus it's down a half step so it's even looser, check @ about 2 min in I do some palm muting stuff.

Absolutely LOVED the "I'm playing my guitar face"... I do it all the time - wife will try telling me something, and albeit I am staring right at her, every so often I'll twitch and tweak as I'm striking a special note. Physically, I'm "there" when playing a guitar... Mentally, somewhere in the stratosphere with Jimi, SRV, and a host of others...

Thanks for the vid Braddah - what mode was this?? How hard would it be to slap a Clean/Tex mode clip together as I'm just GASing for an Einy.

Peace,
V.

Hey man,

Thanks for the compliments haha, yea gotta have that face!!! LOL and yes I do that to, I see your saying words but I have no idea what the hell your saying to me lmao...

This was just the lead channel, I really don't take enough advantage of this amp it's so damn versatile...

I MIGHT be able to get a decent clip tonight, we'll see and I can actually track it with two mics now and add the audio to video so the SQ is a lot better.

I love it man, I keep listening to sound clips of Einstein/Herby/VH4 none of them to me come near the Einstein lol, it's just the best sounding of the Diezel line to my ears the most organic, but it just suits me the best I suppose, considering there's so many styles of music there is a Diezel for everyone!

That'd be awesome Bro, if ya could slap a Tex/Crunch/Clean example out via vidclip or the like... As most cats on this forum know, I've got a VH4S and an Uberschall TJ - both practically new... Love 'em both, but the word "organic" is what I'm now looking at - and honestly even the Schmidt seems to be pawing and my senses. But ya, inevitably, the Einy 50W might be the right animal - or 100W - really, what's a couple hun between friends (that being "Papa" and me). But I'm very eager to hear the above noted modes styles, and as I play LP's almost exclusively, your testimony and test driving really strike a chord (heh heh) in me.

Peace,
V.

I've never even played an Einstein and I would make that trade in a heartbeat! Played a VH4 and the Diezel sound is something that must be experienced! I'm sure the Einy is no exception. :)

Hey V,

I had a late practice tonight, and went from 8am-8pm today pretty beat, and I live in an apt so didn't get home in time to turn the amp on to a decent level... unfortunately I'm also booked solid for the next 3 days, literally 8am-10pm if not later, this weekend is a possibility as early as Friday... I should be able to do it then but I got a call about a studio gig and I don't know when that is, but it shouldn't take to long whatever it is, unless they are recording a record or something  I'll know more by Thursday night. I wish you would have gotten to me over the weekend, I spent two solid days playing and tracking guitars would have been a piece of cake to light it up for you.

The texas channel is unreal... but I'm a bit torn because with the amp on mode one the lead channel is a bit tighter, less compressed andddd it seems to cut more, that being said it's easier to shred on but I need to slow the fuck down and focus more on melodies and memorable themes in my playing... speed isn't always your friend haha. In all honesty I don't really dig the Einsteins clean channel that much, I mean it's very good compared to most channel switchers, but it's a little tight feeling with higher out put pickups, with singles it feels better IMHO, and it's VERY clean I like a bit of break up, I actually prefer the texas over the clean as my "Clean sound" when I play live... Regardless I don't think there's anything out there that will convince me to give up my Diezel for a very very long time.
