Is it just me, or do 5150/6505 4x12s rock?

Every time I play a 5150/6505 cab it sounds freaking amazing. I know it sounds great through a 5150/6505 respectively, but I recently played a VHT 50CL through it, and it frickin' KILLED!!!! Does anyone else agree these cabs are astonishing through almost any head, especially for their price??

Yes, I think they are great cabs especially for the used price. They have lots of thump and a good smooth tone to them and are built very well. I have recommended them before but most people ignore it because they hear with their eyes.

I don't like the PV Sheffield speakers at all. Pull those out and put in some decent speakers and it would probably sound pretty good.

Personally I find them dark and smooth sounding in the mid range.. I heard better.

For a cab that goes for $300 or less used, all day? Could you point me to it?

My favorite cabs are my older marshalls with greenbacks and g1265s but you wont find those for anywhere near that price unless you score a deal. Even then, the 5150s have something up on them for modern tones and low end. Not to mention I don't particularly want to drag a 1k+ cab to a gig around town and the 5150 still sounds just fine with a good amp/guitar.

I understand if they are not someones favorite cab of all time or not even at the top compared to some high dollar stuff but they really are one of the best sounding cabs you can get for the money.

ive been through a ton of cabs, and those peaveys with sheffields are by far the worst cab i have ever played  for 300 dollars i would much rather have a randall with jaguars, a carvin, a crate BV, basically any cab with some kind of celestions in it

What is wrong with them?

I know it's not trendy to say so, and I only had a 5150 cab when I had a 5150 head so I never got to try it with another head, but at the time I loved that rig.

we had 5 or 6 different cabs at my buddies house where my band used to jam, and my head is stereo so i used to usually run two cabs side by side. that cab was just terrible, at band volume you could barely hear it next to the other cabs, didnt project at all, had this real raspy high end. i had one years ago too that i got rid of as soon as i heard my rig at the time through a marshall cab cause it was like a night/day difference. i just cant get into those sheffields at all

I will always have at least one 5150 cab as long as play. I don't use them as my main cab anymore but I'll always have one...they're good solid cabs. 11 ply birch. And the 1200 Series sheffeilds were copies of Ed's speakers. But people have alot of varying opinions on them like everything else...it's just that then Peavey brings out alot more opinions.
