Is it Possible to convert an Evertune setup to Floyd Rose?

Yes, this is usually asked the other way around, but I just got a Framus Stormbender, and its a hell of a guitar. They, or this model in particular, come with the Evertune system. Having had this for a short while, I do understand the concept and I am very much able to operate the system and get it working correctly. No issues, it works fine, it stays in tune. Hooray. At this point, though, I am thinking this guitar would be especially cool if it had a Floyd instead of this Evertune thing. Its got a rather large route for the Evertune, but no clue how that would translate to a Floyd. If it were an easy install for a Luthier that's one thing, if its major surgery that is another, and something I have no interest in doing.

For anyone who isn't familiar with the Stormbender, its Devin Townsend's sig model. Whether or not you dig the guy, the guitar is something else. Its a thick, nearly 10 pound hunk of mahogany with a maple top, Fishman pickups and a nice ebony board.

I'm sure it's possible but it'll definitely be major surgery

Is suspect it'd be easier to just fill the Evertune route and then route for the Floyd, but I'm sure it's possible

You need guidance ....and how many Blackout beers have you had?
LOL

I guess the question is worthy liken to the guy who asked, "Can I put a Floyd Trem on my Les Paul."

Perhaps but I solved the Les Paul Floyd conundrum. Now I move on. Is it my fault that I want a Floyd on every guitar? I think not.

I have yet to begin drinking. This is all from a completely sober mind. This guitar would kick ass with a Floyd.

it is possible but you would have to completely fill the routes for the ever tune and then reroute them for a floyd. If i were to do this i would charge 4-500$ without paint repair

Appreciate the replies, I am getting the feeling that I’ll be living with the Evertune. At least I’ll be, uh, in tune all the time.

Why not get the import version to do this to? That's too nice to do that kind of surgery to. ?

I'm completely jealous of that, have wanted one since they were announced. Big ole Devy fanboy.

Yeah, you are absolutely right. I shouldn’t be considering hacking up a guitar like this. I have to wonder why he had to have this Evertune system put on these guitars.

He’s in love with them and at this point, I am too. My two favorite bridges are the Evertune and the Ibanez Lo-Pro; I grew up with Floyds but holy shit, not having to check my tuning between every take in the studio is a fucking godsend. Not dealing with tuning at all is awesome.

When I write/record I get pissy if stuff slows me down, especially something like tuning. I still go for full takes from start to finish when I track and that one time you don’t check your tuning and you double track a 6 minute song only to realize after the double is a couple cents off from the original one, just enough to give it that weird chorus effect, that shit infuriates me. Anything I can do to minimize those things and make the process as seamless as possible is all the better.

And live, well, no one wants to slip out of tune live.

Good points.

I’m not sure how the damn thing works, but it does. I do zero recording but perform live regularly. I don’t really have any issues tuning but it would be one less thing to worry about I suppose.

Yeah, I haven’t read into it enough to know how it works to describe it with enough accuracy. Knowing how the zones work, my best guess is that when you set the tuning, it locks the springs into specific tensions and those springs adjust during tuning slippage to retain the same tension. But how it’s mechanically doing that I’ve got no fuckin’ clue. It’s cool as hell, though!

The tuning issues I run into in the studio aren’t anything crazy and if it were occurring on a lead/solo track it wouldn’t be an issue. It when you start doubling/tripling/quad tracking guitars that the smallest difference in tunings with come off sounding like a light chorus effect. When you stop to tune for 0.2cents between every take, it can become infuriating. Live, with the same guitars, I wouldn’t even notice it.

Evertune is amazing! I have a Gibson Explorer that I had an evertune installed on and it went from a typical Gibson that never stays in tune that I was about to get rid of, to my number 1 guitar. Even with floyds you have to dick around with it when the temperature changes and string changes/intonation are a pain, I got so tired of it all.
With the Evertune you just pick up your guitar and go to record or just play and never worry about it. There are some disadvrages to it, but the convenience far outweighs anything else. Don’t modify the guitar, just play and enjoy it! You will get used to it.
