Is the Eventide 2016 worth the money?

I am considering purchasing this 1800 dedicated reverb box for my VH4. Anyone have this unit and have any feedback? Also what Lexicon would be a good alternative to check out?

Thanks,

Christhoven

Lexicon PCM70 and up. I have a PCM-80 and love it. The main draw back with it, is the delay in loading of presets, though I run it in parallel in a W/D/W setup, so I don't notice too much load time lag. I usually have it set on my favorite dedicated reverb preset, and there it stays, though there are exceptions, usually that is how I run it-as a dedicated reverb unit.

I run the Eventide H8000FW, TC 2290, TC 1210, and the Lexicon PCM-80, all in parallel and some pedals (In series, before the amps' inputs) on a rack tray.

I have had an opportunity to play through the Eventide 2016 and it is a very easy to use unit and does sound very nice too. If you get the chance to try out the Lexicon PCM 70 and up series, do yourself a favor and do it, as IMO, there really is NOTHING like Lexicon for reverb.

Thanks for the feedback, i guess i'll have to go and play both and A - B.. Though i'm more for a 'dedicated' reverb unit that a multi - effects box.

Since its up there in price i'm weighing it against a new G5, then getting pro tools and some cool mics for recording to develop some songs..

Don't think i'll be ready to perform anytime soon as I have to write all the material first.. Though I think a nice reverb can help inspire?

Decisions..

So you in HI that's sic man [awesome gear], have a link to any of your tune's ?

Hi Chris,

Not yet, regarding tunes with the rig. Though I do have a clip with the Lexicon Hall reverb and shimmer effect, TC 2290 for delay and a Rocktron Intellifex for chorus

The playing sucks, but it was just done as an experiment for recording purposes with mentoneman's VS880

Found a PCM 90 for around $750.. Looks a bit beat up from rack rash, and some scratches on the front panel.

I let a PCM 80 slip on ebay for about $651 that looked a bit better..

Should I go ahead with the 90?

Chris.

Really for guitar applications, the PCM70 V2.0 with the circular delays is the sought after one, as it is what Landau and Lukather were using back in the day, BUT... I have the PCM-80 (got it for $600, in really good shape), so if your primary use is going to be for reverb, the PCM-80 will do you fine. I'd wait and look for a unit that is in great shape. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

I ended up getting the PCM 90 for $750, at first couldn't get it to work but after reading that manual set that thing to the analog mode @ 48 khz..

I'm assuming that having one 1/4 wire going to the input and one leaving the output will be fine.. Instead of using any sort of Y-connector?

So far I like rockin out the 'small church' setting as well as the standard 'concert hall' .. I usually have my parallel loop set to 35%, which isn't too much reverb- I like to have lots of TONE and just a bit of effect..

Ordered some Evidence Audio Lyric Cables for the PCM 90, and now i'm totally broke, but with an awesome setup!

Thanks for the help guiding me in the right direction!

What reverb settings do you like on your 81?

It will work like that but when you use it stereo and hear the difference, you'll NEVER do it any other way again. mine is the PCM-80, and I actually use several settings depending on what I'm going for, but tend to use a large hall Reverb for most guitar stuff, and just adjust the mix output to make it subtle, I turn off the High Cut, usually...

Enjoy, you will be discovering very cool stuff in that box, for a LONG time to come.

If my amp is mono, how would I run the 90 in stereo?

Would I have to run more wires or have another cabie? Kind-of-confused

I was speaking to the future. You can't run stereo with only one amp, so you were right to be confused. My bad, for not being more clear. FYI, push the +4 button on the back of the unit, if you are not getting enough input level- Your input should NOT need to be maxed like in your pic. It ought to be around 12 o'clock
