Is there something in the low end with solid state amplifiers?

I don't know the proper terminology to use or how to explain it but from my experience I'm noticing a specific distinction between tube amps and solid state and it is in the low end.

I've only had a few solid state amplifiers, a crate GX when I first started playing guitar and didn't know anything about AMP so that one doesn't even really count. My friend has a vh140c and I played that a bunch of times well after I became more familiar with amps. So I kind of use that as my starting example, I play death metal and I like '90s death metal...of course the vh140c was one of the most regarded amps for '90s death metal.

But I just did not like the amp at all, it sounded fine it actually sounded good but there was something in the low end that I could just not dial out I don't know what it is. I thought at the time that it was a frequency but now I am second-guessing that assessment.

I've had to sell most of my gear recently and right now I'm playing out of my boss katana combo amp. I love the boss Katana and I would actually take one over the Ampeg but I'm noticing the same exact low-end issue that I had with the ampeg.

I'm starting to think that maybe it has nothing to do with a frequency but simply that it is solid state power that I am hearing.

I'm really just wondering if anyone else has the same experience? I know that's a wall of text and hopefully it makes sense.

The vh140c is just unique in both tone and feel and might not be for everyone. Listen to the vh140c vs iic+ isolated tracks in the thread I just did, you can hear the “bounce” in the low end of the iic+ and then how tight the ampeg is is comparison. I have the gx130c, my Randall’s, my fender metalhead and none of them are really quite like the ampeg

I love solid states. I would go to a solidstate amp fest just to try them all out back to back

Depends on the amp. My Randall RG100ES sounds massive. Bottom end is amazing. I'm using a Peper's dirty tree out front... along with a shit ton of gain/drive. :ROFLMAO:
