I got an email from a guy interested in buying my drumset. I sent him a message and got this back:

I apologize for this automatic reply to your email.

To control spam, I now allow incoming messages only from senders I have approved beforehand.

If you would like to be added to my list of approved senders, please fill out the short request form (see link below). Once I approve you, I will receive your original message in my inbox. You do not need to resend your message. I apologize for this one-time inconvenience.

Click the link below to fill out the request: https://webmail.pas.earthlink.net/wam/

Lol that is exactley what I was thinking too! I actually just went to the Earthlink support page and found this though. I think it is actually legit. I should have done some more research before making this post  It probably placed me on the "suspect sender list" because his original message was redirected from craigslist.

Accepting an Allowed Sender Request
When Suspect Email Blocking intercepts a message, spamBlocker notifies the sender with the following email message:

This is an automatic reply to your email message to johndoe@earthlink.net

This email address is protected by EarthLink spamBlocker. Your email message has been redirected to a "suspect email" folder for johndoe@earthlink.net. In order for your message to be moved to this recipient's Inbox, he or she must add your email address to a list of allowed senders.

Click the link below to request that johndoe@earthlink.net add you to this list.

The link points to an online Allowed Sender Request form that the sender can fill out to request to be added to your Address Book. If the sender fills out the form, you receive an Allowed Sender Request via email. You can accept this request to add the sender to your Address Book.

To accept the request:

Open the Allowed Sender Request email message.
Choose Move to Inbox & Add Contact from the pull-down menu, then Click Go. If you don't see the Go button, click the link under the sentence "To ADD this sender to your Address Book and move all blocked emails to your Inbox, click this link."
Once you accept the request, future messages from that sender will appear in your Inbox. In addition, any messages from that person that are stored in your Suspect Email folder will be forwarded to your Inbox

Even if it is legit, fuck that. Here is my phone number 000-000-0000 call me if you want to discuss the sale of my drumset. WTF? Makin you jump through hoops and shit. What is this world coming to?

I don't know, but I like this idea for keeping spam out, this is what the world is coming to because of spammers.
I wish my phone would reject callers that aren't on my list as well, half of the calls I receive on my cell are spam.

I had earthlink years ago, and they tried to do something like that with my email account. Very annoying, but it is probably legit. It's just really inconvenient.

All I had to do was type in the letters of a generated image, but it is still a pain in the ash. If I wasn't in as much of a rush to sell this as I am, I would have deleted the message without even giving it a second look. I can see how other people would think it is spam itself.
