Just above loud talking volume unfortunately, but decided to try one mic again and I need an opinion. Specifically if the part where the guitars go out of key is a bad thing/ :emofag: :grim: or not... I kinda dig it or I wouldn't be showing it. Final version's melodic part will probably have some sort of effect to wet it out? It's just a riff to be used as a pre-chorus. Nothing meant to be special, just worried if that part sounds stupid and I know the playing isn't perfect, it's just for writing.

Thanks dudes,

Tone: no low end, not really a great feeling of saturation. Sounds a bit phasey.

Composition: Certain parts have potential, but feels a bit sparse. Might fill out with drums and bass backing.

What volume where you listening at? I can see it sounding thin at a lower volume but at decent volume I was worried about too much. I'm a newb at recording, so maybe it needs to be compressed? The drums and bass do give it more drive/spatial depth maybe if I can catch my drummer sometime tonight I'll throw it up there with those parts and figure out how I want to wet the melodic part up with. Going for a slightly drier sound for this song though, so that's actually cool you said that.

Thanks man for the opinion dude-a-rino

the way im hearing it with drums in my head it sounds good to me. don't know about your tone, laptop speakers here, but definitely not too bad.

I think I was going for the same tone you are describing a few weeks ago. Same type of jam too, but faster. Let me know what you think. P.S. sorry if you think this is threadjack, but we both may learn something anyway.

Well what I got going on is pretty much what I was going for, that's a little too metal for this song, which is more geared towards hard rock. Always a dash of metal though since it's dear to my heart   . I just seem to be having a problem getting the body of the guitar and smoothness out of my recordings. I just don't get what it is unless I need to break down and get a mic pre. I guess maybe the pro fire's mic pre's aren't any good? I mean my tone in real life is VERY full and ballsy, just not getting it across for some reason, guess there's a reason they pay people to do this for a living   .

Hey nbarts, how you doin buddy! What do you use for a mic pre? Think that might be what I need?

Get a pair of monitors. $250-500 a set

I use A-Design Pacifica for guitars, I really want an API too. That said with recording gear you've gotta know what you are listening to. This is not gonna fundamentally change your tone, unless you are looking for some additional distortion from your mic preamp.

Keep working on your skills, maybe try a different speaker. I do like the monitor suggestion. The biggest improvement in my recored tone was ditching my old sony headphones for AT M50s. That said I don't advocate recording electric guitar or any other loud source using headphones, it's a straight road to being deaf.

BTW I didn't have time to comment on that before, but you don't have to sell your regular spacing pickup if you are switching to a floyded guitar. I use regular spacing with floyds & wide spacing on rfixed bridges all the time. Gotta run now, maybe I'll add a few later.
