OK, so one of my power tubes fired up today, smoke all over the place. Not a big deal, but...

the fuse for that spot probably exploded inside or something, because I can't get it out. The plastic holder is just stuck in there. What do I do?

I've got it out. Now..

1: I need a new fuse holder. Where do I get it?

2: the inside is still dirty from the exploded fuse. I think the glass part melted. How do I clean it to be safe?

If You open the chassis You can remove the rest of the
fuse through the back side of the fuse holder.
There is a little hole for using a small screw driver.
Remove the metal cap of the fuse.
Then lay the chassis on the backside and the broken
glas will fall out.

We send fuseholders to Terry tomorrow.

Peter

Thanks Peter!

Do you know how long it's gonna be until he gets them?
Can I run the amp without it for now? I don't have a backup.

Contact Terry (duolos) for particulars on this, including time to delivery question you posed. I'd imagine you won't hear from Mr. Diezel again for a few hours given the time difference between US & Germany. Terry is the best there is when it comes to customer service and responds very quickly.

As for running the amp until you get the fuse/fuse holder replaced, I can't knowledgeably respond to that except to say that I personally wouldn't. Hopefully Terry or someone else with correct info will chime in on this?

I put a set of EL34s & bias had jumped so high that it fried one of the power tubes instantly

Anyways, I've got it all set & biased now, I just need a new fuse holder & the amp should be ready to rock.

Please call me or PM me your address and I will get one to you. Do you need just the cap or the whole part? Let me know and I will get you taken care of.

As I read this thread from the beginning I feared this.

As a reminder to all fellow Diezel-holics....

The bias trim pots are quite sensative on the Herbert. When dropping a different tube in, even though it is from the same tube family, the tube properties may be different enough to affect the current to the tube. So, I always turn the trim pots all the way to the left before putting the new tube in, then to the right to get the bias adjusted into range.

On the VH4, there is only one, so it is fairly easy to do, provided you remove the chassis.

PM sent.

Just to add to what steve_k posted the Einstein - apparently, it has very sensitive trim pots, as well - I am using the same approach when biasing it. First full left, then adjusting it gradually.

While on the subject, I want to get some spare fuses for Einstein 100W head - can anyone (Olaf?) kindly point me to an EU online shop (and a part number there will make me hit the ceiling :) ) ....
Thanks a lot,
Niki
