It's true. I was jamming the other night with a good former LA guy using a James Tyler. Sounded great. They must be great guitars cause everyone I have met that uses them can wail. RIP to the man.

Personally not a fan of the guitars but man talk about losing another legend from the heyday of guitar! Quite sad cause he was there in the thick of it!!

I've never tried one but have heard great things. They seem to have a dedicated, loyal following. The ESP founder also died last fall. He had a great vision as well. A couple heavy blows to the guitar world IMO.

I’ve owned 3 studio elite hd’s and the necks are just incredible! They really do feel special.

But beyond that, they’re too midrange heavy. Very honky imo. And certainly not worth $8k new…but give it a minute, Carl will be around to spank me shortly :hys:

Esp founder hit me hard, that’s the guy responsible for some of the coolest guitars out of the 80s/90s. What a behemoth ESP has become!

I never owned one, but every Tyler I've played was been fantastic, the necks are especially great.

Never could get past the headstock though. :D Still, awesome studio guitars.

My Tyler Twins are near 10 years old. They were in the 4k range back then. IMO they should STILL be 4k. Nothing warrants the insane current prices.
The necks are amazing. They have their place in the sonic universe, like Tom Anderson, Suhr, etc James Tyler was a very innovative guy. RIP

Yeah sad stuff. I'm a fan of Tylers, I have a few. @Nashville Riff Co I understand what you mean regarding Tylers full midrange, it's what I love about them, but yes, depending on what you're going for (heavy tones?) they aren't the best. I love ESP too...have Lynch Kamikaze 1 coming in the next week or so...really looking forward to that one.

Current Tyler pricing is crazy but everything seems insane. I feel like Water Sobchek in the Big Lebowski..."Has the world.gone totally crazy"

Honkyness come from their electronics. I’d try one with a more traditional setup.

I keep forgetting every time 😂

Not like I own a Tyler or am a big fan, just a thought on the topic 😂

I remember you told you never messed with electronics, right?

haha its ok, i'll keep reminding

no i don't mess with electronics because i barely have time to practice playing

that being said, i am trying to learn how to replace pickups and do setups so i do not have to leave my guitars at the shop for weeks on end

but beyond those things, i just like to plug in and play

You probably a busy man judging by your great collection. But I never thought THAT busy haha

I didn’t know shops are so overwhelmed, I never even assumed you to do it yourself honestly.

My thing about gutting Tylers is more curiousity than anything.
