I have this amp and it kicks ass, especially boosted by an SD1 or the like.

Yes - it takes pedals really well and you can easy go to high gain with boosting it. Straight in its like upper mid-gain I would say.

That amp sounds really nice in the crunch and lower gain tones to me. A nice harmonic sparkle. I'd probably set it between those and your higher gain tone and then use my volume knob and maybe a boost/OD for experimenting. Sweet amp, thanks for teh audio share.
