Jeff, What Takes Longer To Build?

The M4 is the most difficult to build. The metal work is always messed up because of the cut outs and bends. Never sent to us right still after all these years. Teri or I can build a module in a half a day.

I was looking inside the M4 the other day to tighten my front input (my own fault) and noticed how much stuff needed to line up for assembly. I was afraid it would be tough getting all the holes to line up for the top panel.

That's what its like..if it doesn't fit we don't just drill a hole so it works. We want it done right and it's really hard to get the same stuff every time. Hence why are build times are so long. I am working really hard at making it much shorter for build times but man talk about having a tuff time getting other companies to do it how you want it...makes me crazy!

Thanks for the response Jeff. I'm only asking because I ordered the M4 with one module and now I'm about ready to order the other 3 modules so I was curious about having to wait for the remaining mods.

I have 2 modules for sale (SL and EG3/4) if you are interested. PM if so!

Thanks,
Eric

If you had an SL2 I'd probably grab it. I don't think I'd be interested in the EG3/4 with an EG5 coming.

I just sold my Road King so I can order my remaining mods today. Yay me.

I don't think EG3/4 and EG5 would be that similar. EG5 is more Soldano-ish, EG3/4 is more hot rod Marshall circa 1979, aka EVH "Brown Sound"

So then what's the SL2 like? Are you saying the EG3/4 has more gain than the SL2?

SL2 is Egnater's take on a straight up JCM800. My understanding is the EG3/4 is Egnater's take on the EVH-type brown sound, which would be more like a hot rod Marshall 100W master volume amp from the late 70s/pre-JCM800. I own the EG3/4. I have played an SL2, but have not spent as much time with it as the EG3/4. From my experience, the SL2 is more "dynamic" while the EG3/4 is more "compressed". The SL2 seems to move more air and has more punch, while the EG3/4 seems smoother and creamier. To my ears, the EG3/4 has more gain, but this could just be a perception thing - i.e. it seems to sound like it has more gain, but it may not have more actual gain (Jeff would be able to answer that). SL2 has more mids, EG3/4 is a little less mid-y.

SL2 think Randy Rhodes, Jerry Cantrell even. EG3/4 think Steve Vai Passion and Warfare, early EVH.

I'm sure some other guys may disagree to a degree, but that is my take on it.

I have only heard the EG5 in clips, but it sounds to me more like a late-80s Soldano, high gain/scooped mids kind of sound. That said, you could probably torque the EQ on the EG5 and get it into SL2-ish territory - don't know?

SL2 and EG3/4 are similar is that they both start with a hot rodded Marshall vibe. However, EG3/4 is darker and smoother than SL2. Both seemed to have the same amount of gain on tap when I played them. I went with SL2 because it was punchier and screamed more for solos. Its all preference. Both are awesome.

Neither one sounds like EG5 though. EG5 has tons of high mids like a Soldano SLO. Its not scooped at all.

Well, I bought the EG 3/4 off Brent. Bought his VHT 2502 as well. And I picked up a T/D and MHG from other members. Now, I just need to get my M4 and EG5 from Bruce! ;)

I owned the EG5 in the past. It was really BRUTAL sounding in distortion. Never had the EG 3/4 but had the SL2. To me the SL2 was like the Iron Maiden, Dokken tone. Really good for that era. But I have always been curious about the EG 3/4. If anyone wants to part with theirs, drop me a PM.

Well if for any reason I don't like it, I'll let you know. But I won't be able to try mine till I get my M4 which will be, hopefully, in July.
