I have the Borderline DVD with the Trio.

Joe is killing it. All Marshall Jubilee and the tone coming off his '59 Les Pauls and Stratocasters is incredible. The '59's have this deep hollow quality in the mids that sounds almost magical.

Great to hear the Jube Marshalls again. It's my favorite tone from him. Oh and he found the treble knob. Much brighter tone from Joe than in recent years.

By the way,the drums sound KILLER. Anton Fig beats the snot out of them.
Great stuff.

I thought he switched to JVM's?

Joe uses all kinds of stuff, but the Trio (Borderline) DVD is all Marshall Silver Jubilee.

Have the DVD, agreed, great tones, great rhythm section ! Nice to see guys up close in a club setting, no fakery or bullshit.

Last year he had two DSLs behind his vintage/boutique backline that provided the actual sound...the Plexis, Trainwreck, and Friedman were essentially stage props.

I talked to him in Nashville last year and he told me that the DSL is his favorite amp, and a tubescreamer into the green channel cranked is what he uses about 85% of the time. Joe is one of those guys that can make anything sound good, but I was surprised to hear that he used the DSL over all of those other amps on stage.

Seems a little silly that he has Marshall HW and vintage amps and he uses DSL's.
Two '59 Les Paul's, '65 Strat and a DSL?

If I had those guitars and cash I'd tour with a couple late '60's Plexi's.

Whatever works I guess.

He told me that if he could only own one amp it would be a DSL. Brad Whitford was standing there with him as well, and said that he also thought the DSL was one of the best Marshall's. I love the DSL, but I don't think it is the best Marshall by no means. Like you said though, whatever works.

Saw him last year and no DSLs in sight..I was close enough to see any backlined amps, there were none..just his killer vintage stuff.

I've heard him say he switched to mostly DSL's as well. Probably doesn't want to keep touring vintage gear and risk damage. You can get great tones from a DSL, very similar to a Jubilee, but the Jubes tone for leads is a cut above most Marshalls IMO.

That's because they were hidden behind the backline. Fact.

Fiction...at least at the gig I saw him at. Unless they were under the stage...  And this was over a year ago so I'm sure things have changed since then. Lots of great players use DSLs live...they just don't record with them. DSLs are good sounding and easy to find/replace if they break down. Not ripping on the DSL..at all. Good amp.

Silly me...that must be a Marshall fridge sticking out behind behind the Dirty Shirley head (pic from last year's tour...taken by me)

Why not just have the DSL's up front like on the BCC DVD?

Who is he trying to impress with the vintage gear? The internet crowd?

Not me, I don't care. Either you can play and have tone or you can't and you don't.

Agreed, not a fan of having fake amps onstage with the real ones behind hidden. But this is rock and roll, it's all about the show....

Isn't his tech a member here? Maybe he could set the story straight.

You'd think the crowd wouldn't know "x" marshall from "y" marshall. Maybe a lot of Joe's audience are guitarists themselves?
Now for the real question: Original DSL or new model?

I think it's more impressive that he can sound like he does with a $600 amp while the haters on TGP can't get their 2 Rocks to sound right while playing Mustang Sally with their cover band.

:D

I love my jubilee, but I could be very happy with a DSL, been impressed the few times I have played one....
