The tune "Surfing...." just rotated through my iPod while i'm hanging out with my 6yr old and my 3 yr old - and they immediately start air guitaring as soon as it comes on :rock:

It had that same effect on me when it first came out 20 years ago. What an absolutely ripping tune and ripping album (those are the things that look like giant black Cd's, kids....) To this day it still stacks up as a killer tune and a killer showcase of what was to come.

His later stuff sort of lost me - but for this moment - Hats off to Joe Satriani :worship:
 
I really like the Surfing With The Alien album. It's probably my second favorite Satriani album, just behind Engines of Creation. :)
 
Definitely a classic album. Followed a very close second by The Extremist :rock:

I'll be the cak and put my votes in for the self titled Satriani album and his later work like Super Collossal. Plenty of shreddy moments, but more melodic and more space for contrast. Of course, what the hell bad can you say about Summer Song, so...

I like his self-titled album. He went with simplicity on that one. Awesome tones on that album.

And yeah, nothing bad to say about Summer Song...........or Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness for that matter :)
 
I grew up to SWTA and that tune will forever be stuck in my head. So will the memory of the time I tried to learn how to play it :cry: :no:
 
I love Crystal Planet, i think he had some of his best tones on that album. And it was the first album where he shut off most of his effects and turned off his chorus.

And his new album Super Colosuss had some great melodic songs on it. They play his song Crows Chant at every sports game now. I heard it last night on the TV at the Superbowl. :thumbsup:

Surfing is cool. My favorite is Flying In A Blue Dream though.
 
It was in 86 or 87, I remember trying to learn "Eruption" when one of my employees gave me "Surfing with the Alien" on cassette. I put down the Eruption tab and never looked back, Surfing truly was an album that changed the course of my life as it relates to playing guitar. :thumbsup:
